I’ve been at my current job for 9 mos. I got a call for another role that would put me as an Associate or Sr. Director at a smallish company (~$3Bn rev) in a new arm. I am an associate at my current company. I am pausing because I’ve only been at my company for 9 mos and I thought I had some goals I wanted to achieve, not really hitting them. And because they have made it clear that I would be a diversity hire. (Cont’d)

How would you evaluate whether it’s a good oppty to leave?

Some things I’m considering; how my manager and I interact, his mgmt style etc. The timeline to the building out of a team since they’ve grown 20-30% in the last 2 years.

I’m going to do a bit more diligence on the overall team. They tout a lot about DEI but when the recruiter called it was “they’re trying to hire more diverse candidates”.

It’s also a “new” team.

If they are elevating your title from a role you’ve only had 9 months, I would reco doing diligence on their team culture and standing. Not that you’re not good, but you know yourself and if you’re ready to be Sr — if there’s a risk that you’re a panic hire for a dumpster fire of a team it would significantly tarnish what a good opportunity it could be

On the other hand, for the right price maybe you don’t care

This is helpful, thank you!

It is now time to staff up for another conference and I’m welcome to return, but my direct report is being promoted to Comms Dir. they’d like to split the role somehow, but I can’t figure out how.

Here's a question, I see that you can apply to jobs with just your resume, and there isn't an opportunity to include a cover letter. This astounds me because that's really where a business can learn your values and what you can offer them. Does anyone recommend a way around this? I thought about uploading a two page resume with the cover letter included. It seems a loss not to include that edge.

My cleaning lady now drives to our apartment and finds street parking. She got a ticket last week for not seeing the signs. I suggested to her if the signs weren’t clear she could contest it. I’m struggling here - should I pay for the ticket? On one level, she has worked with us for a long time, but I also don’t think it’s necessarily my responsibility. I give her a nice bonus and raise each year. Do I pay it once as a good will gesture? She has other clients too that she drives too.
