The partners keep saying everything is business as usual but I can’t get either of the people I report to to answer my calls/emails or even review assignments I’ve submitted. I realize they are human and also dealing with any number of things but I would appreciate just knowing where things stand. Should I be worried?
Me too man. Me too.
You shouldn't be worried. Nothing you can do about it, and I am worried enough for the both of us. So you take it easy.
If you have the cases already assigned to you, there has to be work you can do on them if you are proactive. Instead of asking for work, Have you tried proposing next steps, with the caveat that you will proceed as outlined unless you hear otherwise. Partners are people who are more busy than you are. it’s not fair or effective to put the burden on them to spell out your every move.
You have the cases - review the file, note upcoming deadlines, any additional discovery that needs to be propounded, etc. Then prepare a short email explaining what you will be doing unless you hear otherwise - bill for that entire process. Give the partner a reasonable amount of time to provide further instructions. If you don’t hear otherwise get started.
I’ll keep at it. I hate to be the squeaky wheel but it seems to be necessary. Thanks for the advice
Similar story and I’m first year associate too. I think it’s just kinda how firms operate, don’t take it too personally.
