I’ve been extremely busy. Because of this, I have less patience for the constant follow up required for me to get things out the door (I’m talking about weeks of unanswered e-mails and phone calls). I have been finding it difficult to raise the issue because everyone seems appreciative and many partners (including the ones who are causing the unnecessary stress) go out of their way to tell me what a fantastic job I’m doing. Any suggestions as to how to raise this without jeopardizing my status?

I bet when the partner emails the client will respond. Keep at it. Cc people. Send read receipts. Call at the same time each day. I hate to love this game. Just answer your damn emails. Read and sign the docs (if all copacetic) when asked by your counsel. Thank you folks, and goodnight!

Follow up via phone. It’s often prompts quicker action. After sending emails, I immediatey set a calendar appointment however many days out (depending on request) and when that calendar appointment comes up I send a short following email (super quick).

I’ve tried the phone to no avail. Do people tend to get irritated with your constant follow ups? I feel like I’m a broken record!

Get a secretary/better secretary/additional secretary

Do you already put "deadlines" in your emails? "We need to file this next Friday, so it would be very helpful to have this information by Tuesday" or the like?

Yes, in the subject line and in bold in the email text! Some things aren’t deadlines, per se, they are just things that need to be done to keep the case moving. I’m a senior associate, so I’m running a lot of aspects of the case by myself, but sometimes I need partner approval before I can move on something. This is where I tend to run into the issues.

When and how much of a raise should I ask for? Ive been working as a Software Engineer and Data Scientist for 7 months and I am making $70/hr. I got hired to work with python and I work with python, as well as C++, SQL, and NPSS. I have surpassed my boss's expectations time and time again and he constantly refers to me as the only source of good news in the engineering team. He just requested that my contract be extended until April 2024 and I would like for my value to increase.

I’d like to find a part time role in a start up - how do I go about it? Google has been great in terms of wlb (even though I work overtime sometimes but it’s my choice) but I want to do more, have greater impact, and expand my network. I’m an ex tech consulting manager, now L6 PgM with systems focus: my role involves writing PRDs, designing processes, managing projects, data analysis and vanilla automation (SQL, python, apps script) among other things.

Should I be worried that I’m going from engaged and stress to numb and slightly indifferent? Or is this what it feels like to power through? I can’t gauge it anymore? I’m curious to hear people’s thoughts on moving up (particularly within biglaw) with the goal of being a star litigator.
