I've been following posts on people's reactions to India and Indians on this blog. I'm of Indian descent and raised in the West. Do I have a risk of being stereotyped as "Indian" if I try to join B4?

The reactions stem from our use of delivery centers in India to perform a lot of the "mindless" work and the struggles that come with having people on the other side of the planet perform the work for us under a quick turnaround time with little expected mistakes. It's not a reaction on "Indians" themselves so I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm from India and give zero fucks about these posts. People in the delivery centers make minimum wage and you can't expect miracles from them. They are there so the partners can retire with their yachts...

No, I don't think that's a problem at all. I think when people are complaining about India it's not racism or anything, it's more of the frustration of being forced to find work to outsource to our SSCs, then having someone on the other end throw shitty work back over the wall for you to deal with in the morning. Experience that for a little bit and you'll be complaining about india in no time at all.

Thanks! PWC1's comment that I'm Indian is garbage, obviously. I'm British and my ethnicity is Indian. I guess that's where stereotyping starts. Why would I say Indian if I meant West Indies for fucks sake. But the rest of you make me feel positive about racism within the CPA profession.

If you are Indian, you are Indian! Are you referring to West Indies?

like

It's about the outsourcing centers in India and other developing countries where people make like $7-12/hour (Guessing) even though they are CPAs/college educated, not your ethnicity, in my eyes

If you were raised in the West then you most likely won't have any of the same language or communications issues that we experience with outsourcing to India. The complaints are not bad on race, but based on work. You shouldn't have any stereotype issues.

like

Don't worry about stereotypes- just go head long in and do your thing! Don't care about anyone else's prejudices. Besides, there are now so many Indian business owners end executives, you may end up feeling right at home. Oh yeah, you are home!

Also yeah you have that "risk" if you wanna call it that. Some people would always stereotype and "risk" is there inevitably.

No one will give a flying fuck thst you're Indian.

Why would you even assume that I meant is garbage. I meant if you are Indian, you are Indian. Accept who you are without worrying about what others say. You just don't have self confidence!

Pwc1 - I think OP is referring to their race vs ethnicity, which are Two different things. Indian/British. Not Indian/Indian. I may be messing it up, but you sound to OP like you are pegging an Indian as always just Indian regardless of where they grew up and identify as. I'm European mutt/American. But people don't call me European.

How do you consider this 'grew up' as? I have been in the US for 5+ years. Do I consider myself as American then?

PWC1 - that's for you to decide. That's the point.

In the old days, there was an Indian mafia at Citibank. People went from India ( they had attended the IIT or the like) to London, Toronto,or New York. And in general, they became very senior. This is still true to a smaller extent. The Big4 push diversity. They make a very big show of it. If you do join, remember that you are from a long lineage of brilliant businessmen. If you have one instance where you feel any prejudice, go right to diversity.

I'm a middle eastern and they label me as white. Nothing wrong with being white but dayuuum! I'm not white. Point is, at least you'd be called something you actually are 😂

Complaining about off site outsource centers is about quality of work not race. They just mostly happen to be in india.

Still, you'd probably complain less were the outsource centers in the US. Sadly Indians are also highly educated and it's kind of sad they are being used by B4 as a poorly paid resource. But I guess it's a job.

I think OP is a foreign bred confused desi. Nobody, but you is worried about u being of indian descent. Punit Ranjan is the Global CEO of Deloitte. He is an Indian.
