I've been following this bowl for some time and although a lot of us need to make changes to be happier, I can't help but wonder when I consider it, is another firm really the right answer. Thoughts?

While the new gf may end up just as toxic, at least you'll have that initial new relationship excitement before she raises her toxic head...

Other option is industry, which is really just a different type of toxicity

Haha thanks! I've always been a word artist 🔨

Here is the thing, using the relationship metaphor, you and you partner need to have the same end goals. If you want kids and she doesn’t, then you either need to find someone that has the same end goals or internally compromise. Meaning you need to understand that she doesn’t want and won’t have kids and there is probably nothing you can do about it; take it or leave it. This is how companies work, in a “take it or leave it” mindset. And unless you are one of the few chosen ones, they are not going to compromise. So find a company with the same professions goals as yours and can DELIVER on those goals. I find a lot of companies I work with say they have goals that would align with my career (growth, development, exposure, safe risk taking culture, pay for performance, work life balance, meaningful work, etc.) but they are not able to deliver.

Long-story-short, leaving for the right reasons to the right place can solve a lot of problems.

It feels like I'm in a situation where I need to break up with my current toxic girlfriend (Accenture) but my only options (feels like) in this industry is another who is less toxic on the surface but she looks a little prettier simply because she's offering a little more money. The problem isn't solved I just accept a little more coin to continue dealing / living with the same bs

They're certainly doing better on revenue.... wondering how that is..

smart

Depends on what you are after I suppose

Happiness and a healthy life, frankly

uplifting

Good insights, thank you both

Your career is what you make of it. Moving to another firm isn’t going to solve all of your problems because it’s still on you to grow your network and find more enjoyable work.

WLB is difficult in consulting, simply due to the instability of “routines”, so that means consider industry in my mind.

I’m currently interviewing for a hybrid Jr UX Designer role for a fragrance company. The compensation is between 70-80k. I searched the market rate in NYC and the salaries are between 103-120k. I assume this is based on the company, industry, and experience. I have a graphic design background with 10 years experience and have a springboard certification for UX. I don’t want to get low balled as I have been in the past. Is it unreasonable to ask for what’s market value when it’s a team of 5?

What's a really good "difficult" question that you as a candidate can ask the (big law) interviewer?

Context: I had callbacks at a big law firm while i was in law school and after one partner finished her questions and I finished asking my questions, she told me to ask her a really tough question, something to really stump her. l fumbled and am pretty sure that majorly factored into the rejection.

What would you ask?

Left MBB 2 years post Mba to pursue equivalent pay and amazing wlb in a “big old tech” strategy team (think IBM, Dell, HP). I thought boring work would be fine in the context but after 1 year it’s getting to me. How would you think about exit timing to avoid “leaving too fast” but also avoiding becoming branded as an old tech guy? Does the old tech experience look bad for FAANG-like prospects?

Got an offer in tech. It’s a pretty small, but PE-backed company. Not the sexiest area of tech, but decent growth. Good role, solid comp. Do I just take it? I’ve been recruiting for a while and haven’t really landed a dream role 😞 How easy is it to move between different segments of tech?

I have a Consultant level (post-MBA) offer from MBB. I’m currently an Associate (soon to be Manager) at a blockchain VC, and was previously a Manager at a Tier 2/3 consulting firm. While I’m really happy in my current role and believe in the future of blockchain technology and get great investment opportunities, I feel this would be a great opportunity to get the MBB stamp of credibility, and the pay is significantly higher (2-3x). Any thoughts on what you would do in my position?

All this to say that I am dreaming of the day I can give notice and get out of consulting
