I’ve been given a D&I project for my firm which is ideal because it has always been a passion of mine. In the process I’ve noticed that no one is actually committed to this cause. How do you make management see that it’s not just about writing a check?

I've been here. When it comes to senior management and owners you have to tie it to the bottom line

It’s going to take work and won’t change overnight. Start with some kind of education. If you can bring in a consultant or professional to train great! If not, if you can commit them to take a self assessment or read a book good! Worst case of you can have one on one conversations then take it. I always view it as a journey and they have to start somewhere. You have to eventually get them to understand the importance even if it means tying to the bottom line but at least start with some form of an educational foundation.

Business cases! You can find useful statistics and data that showcases how DEIB benefits businesses. HBR has some pretty good articles. I would recommend putting together a deck with some metrics that might be valuable to your stakeholders then including a call to action or action plan.

Taking the whole week off doesn’t make sense either since it’s end the of project. Thank you!

Is it worth staying through project leader role before exiting? For context, I have a biology PhD, approaching 2 years at an MBB firm and set on exiting to pharma (Strategy, BD roles). Not looking forward to the increased stress that comes with becoming a project leader but unclear if a year of leading teams will greatly improve exit opportunities (vs growing at the pharma company)

I remember when I first started working on my thesis project. My adviser asked me to get some funding for it, but he didn't give me any advice about how to do that. He just told me that if I wanted money for my project, I'd have to go through some kind of committee process and submit an application for funding from them. Sure enough, after weeks of writing applications and waiting around for responses from the committee members (who were always too busy), I eventually got approved for funding!

Is it common in the industry for licensed insurance agents to not get any commissions on a referral in which you personally write the policy? Ex: If a current client refers a prospect to our team, I would not receive commission. Additionally, if I write a policy for friends/family I would get a small incentive but it’s a fraction of the commission producers make.
Management is considering changing this going forward. However, I’m not sure how I should react if they keep things how they are now.

This is a question for healthcare HR. I was exposed at work to an employee who tested covid positive after our shift. We were told 4 days after that this employee was positive and hospitalized. I was encouraged to test and was told after the test that the recommendation is to quarantine until test results are available. My surgical center said they can not accommodate the time off work. If I stay home and wait for results am I abandoning my job. Thoughts.

Hi all,

My boss makes jokes about me being from a different country whenever there is a work meeting or a gathering with coworkers, even though he knows where I am from. This usually occurs when I meet new work-related people or for example if I am in a situation that involves ethnic related subjects.

What is this? This is normal?

Stereotyping?
Racism?

The first time I ignored that, but now it has become a pattern and is bothering me now. I am south-American working in the UK.

In honor of National Voter Registration Day, The New Yorker released the transcript of a previously unpublished interview with James Baldwin, who gave a first-hand account of "Freedom Day 1963," a Black voter-registration drive in Selma, Alabama. Baldwin's descriptions from that day are so vivid and detailed that you can feel the fear and anger of the event. If you have a couple of minutes, I highly recommend you read it.

“I must honestly confess that I go through moments of disappointment when I have to recognize that there aren’t enough white persons in our country who are willing to cherish democratic principles over privilege.
