I’ve been going through a hard time lately with my mental health. I feel very depressed and unmotivated. And my work is suffering. I want to leave big law anyway and am applying to jobs. Would it be better to ask the firm for mental health leave? Or just power through doing the minimum?

I'm in favor of taking leave. But I haven't done it because I'm brain washed.

like

I thought of doing the same, mainly because I have been studying for another Bar and it feels like I’m drowning. Every. Day.

Take leave! I’m in favor of it anyway but it’s a no brainer here. You’re prepared to leave biglaw anyway, you’ve got a lot to gain mental health wise and not much to lose.

Why not take a leave of absence and travel (covid permitting)?

Mental health is top priority. I took a sabbatical (still on it). But if your firm has short term disability, chat with a counselor/psych and see if you can get the paperwork for it and take leave. Doing minimum and it being noticeable burns bridges. Never know if you want to return later.

I’ve been working there for 7 years with a great career development.
I’m about to become mother and the whole Maternity leave is uncertain. First, no benefits more than FMLA and second it looks like whatever option they can offer me post 12 weeks is seems like a “favor”.
Long story short I feel it’s time to move on.
Should I start looking now?

Should I ask for compensation for covering multiple positions? How do I ask for it and how much?
Context- I was recently promoted to a new position, new department. Since then I've been doing my new job about halfway and my old job the rest of the time while interviewing for my replacement as part of the transition.
Now my old boss has quit and I'm being called in as an interim fill in for her role. Mind you this role I'm filling in for pays far more than my previous or even current position.

I was recently offered a Zoom interview. I had 10 slots to choose from. I took the first slot available. Three were one day earlier this week and the rest are next week. Does it look good (or desperate, lol) on my part that I took the first time or should I have waited until next week so that I would be fresher on their minds when choosing a candidate? Also, do interviewers still appreciate a handwritten note after an interview?

My firm typically does insurance defense, but we take plaintiffs cases here and there. Is it typical that work done by associates on contingency cases isn’t counted toward their billable hour requirements unless and until we receive our fee on the case? This is my first experience with this, but it’s hard for me to reach my hours as is, without spending time on non billable cases like this with no assurance that I’ll see billable credit at the end.
