You need to continue to develop your English language skills, speaking and presenting. I would practice every chance you get, by yourself in front of the mirror or camera. With family friends and coworkers. That is the exposure you need. There is also Toastmasters which is a group that helps people be better presenters. In the meantime make it a priority to get better, yes you will not get better overnight but you can practice everyday. Ask your work for opportunities to practice by presenting internally and getting feedback and record yourself to hear how you speak and present. Since it’s a 3rd language, ask yourself how important this is to improve your English language speaking and presenting skills. Because you can always pay for private tutoring to get better (or maybe even ask your current company to pay for it or some of it)

Good call! If you let your boss know that presenting is a goal and you’d like tutoring to help, ask if they can fund it. Make the case that you already do great work for pitches, and this can take you to the next level

Talk to your boss (or new business lead) and let them know that presenting your work is a goal you’d like to set for a future pitch. I think that’s totally reasonable. Also ask for honest feedback on what it would take to make that a reality. It might be your spoken English delivery (clearly you can communicate in the written form). It also could be something else you’re not considering. I have had to work on a ton of new biz over the years, and I’ve learned to let go of needing to be “in the room” for every pitch. Every pitch has different needs, and the “casting” for the room is sometimes about factors we have no individual control over. Keep trying! I think the fact you get asked to help with new business speaks volumes about your work. No one asks low performers to help with new biz— so someone at the agency thinks you’re smart.

Appreciate the recommendations and the encouragement. I love your suggestion of letting the boss know but in the way to share my goal and desire for the future plus showing that I’m willing to work on it. definitely ask for the constructive feedback on this as well. Thank you!

Toastmasters? English tutor! And ask to sit in on pitch practice sessions. Watch and absorb. You can get there!

Btw I’m great at developing strategy and generating ideas but not perfect in language skills and though I’m working on it, it’s something I’ll have to develop in a long term. I do think getting more exposures/opps will help improve it faster, but understand they may think it affects a perf pitch presentation?

Hi there! What are your first two languages? My old agency is US headquartered and was always looking for multilingual leads for pitches and servicing for non-US accounts. You can frame your first and second languages as an advantage.

I don’t want to waste their and my time if they’re not willing to consider me for the level I applied for.

I live in a HCOL city and am still not being paid enough to save/live . I have all of the tools/ skill sets to leave consulting and go into big tech . Before going out to market myself and get a new job should I even ask D for a raise ? I’m frustrated because I’m adding a lot of value to my current engagements and I think I’d have a good business case for a raise. On a side note I see people leaving left and right here which is not a good sign!
