I’ve been in IT Audit for almost my entire career and was not an accounting major but want to take the CPA soon in order to be able to sign SOC reports and get Partner promotion. I’ve been out of school for A LONG TIME and don’t even know where to begin. I have enough hours to sit and want to start taking the exams in Jan. Appreciate any advice on the order I should take the exams!

I took them in this order: AUD, FAR, BEC, REG. I think it’s best to start with one of the easier exams (AUD or BEC) as a confidence booster. And then I would take FAR next because it’s the hardest exam. Then I would take AUD or BEC because they both have shorter books (6 units) so they will be less mentally exhausting after having taken FAR. Then I’d finish with REG. AUD, BEC, and FAR all have some overlapping topics. REG has completely different content.

This is super helpful!

OP I would start with your state CPA board for requirements. I believe you need a certain number of accounting credits to sit for the exam. Your post didn’t specify if you have any accounting credits but since you weren’t an accounting major, you might need to take some classes.

Thanks! I did check and was 3 accounting credits short so am taking an easy tax class at the community college this semester
