I’ve been in life underwriting for over 20 years and honestly have never enjoyed it. The strictly production related work is hard for me to stay focused and be interested in the job. Any ideas on what else I can do and still make decent money? I’ve always found it pretty stressful and would prefer a less stressful position.

I kinda disagree with going to claims. I started out in claims and moved to UW. When I was in claims (WC) the case load was unmanageable. Im currently in group benefits, we have peak seasons but it pretty manageable. That’s just my experience.

Since you have an insurance background, maybe something in claims would be more your speed. Definitely less pressure in terms of production.

Claims or audit

Claims for sure! A lot less pressure and a lot less stressful I would think, although I never did underwriting.

Thanks for the replies. I don’t know if there is a job in claims where I could make what I’m currently making in life underwriting. Any thoughts/ideas on transitioning to a different field with my experience?

Look into internal auditing

Hi! I’m transitioning into video editing from healthcare and currently in an internship with a small research/strategy firm that does work for big, generally well known companies. I may be able to go full time with them soon (as an editor, not assistant). What would be a good number to open salary negotiation with? I’m making 83k in healthcare, live in DC, and in my early 30s- so I’m hoping to not get low balled like younger entry level folks with less responsibilities might.

I’m interviewing with the company although I have offer signed with another (going though background checks, so didn’t wanna stop before knowing 100%). Really love the process and the team, but unless something goes sideways with signed offer won’t be joining them. I have a colleague who is probably even better fit for the position, I know that she will enjoy the team too and would be happy for a chance to interview with them. How do I approach this?

My professional life at the moment is far from ideal. I’ve been on quarantine (long story, but a good one) for the last seven years. Royalties from my books don’t pay the bills. My entrepreneurial pursuits remain hampered. For the interim, I’ve been looking for a remote opportunity where I can leverage my skills in marketing, sales, social media, and elsewhere for a decent sum. I have a social media presence which, in recent years, reached millions. There has to be something exciting I can do.
