I’ve been in litigation my whole career. How does one transition to in house counsel or corporate counsel in a company? Is the work life balance better than litigation like I assume it is?

We have in-house litigation attorneys. Definitely not a 9-5 but more balanced than firm life.

I manage an in-house litigation firm. Work life balance is much better. Or at least we strive for it to be.

If you are sure you want to make the switch, and if your firm works with corporate clients, let some of the partners you work with know that you’d like to go in house, preferably with a client. You could get very lucky that way! Also consider calling a headhunter, especially if you get no positive feedback from your firm.

I just left the litigation world to go inhouse. While it's much more balanced, I find the work to be equally as difficult and nuanced as advanced litigation. But...inhouse is SO much better.

Why is it better if you don’t mind elaborating? Also, how did you make the transition land the in-house gig?

I’m on a long term project. My project is having me charge 10% of my time to a BD code. I suppose the argument could be made that we always do some BD to secure the extension of contract every few months but I’m level 9 and mostly just delivering client work (sometimes help develop assets as an extension of our delivery). Is this normal?
