I’ve been in my job for a couple of months and a new position has opened up in the the area I’ve worked in previously for the last 4 years reporting to my boss! I love it. I know I’m doing a good job in my area now but I feel like I would be stupid to not at least talk to my boss about it? What do you guys think? Or does it look bad as I’ve been here less then 6 months

Definitely talk to your boss! You have 4 years & you'd still get to work for your boss. Just have a conversation and let them know that you're very interested and ask what their feelings would be about you applying for the position. Just be open and honest about your thoughts and feelings, and hopefully your boss will be supportive!

It can't hurt to mention it. At the very least, it shows you're eager to learn and grow.

Doesn't look bad at all. You're willing and actively passionate about your career and think this would be a great next step for you. Plus, you wouldn't even be leaving your boss, just transitioning to a new role. Do what you want, and try not to worry about how it looks.

My company has given me a promotion without a raise. Any suggestions on how to deal with this?

Little background:

Asked for promotion in late 2020 - was required to skill up, after skilling up, asked again about when I'll be promoted and was denied because there is no "vacancy" for it.
Got my annual hike in Oct 2021 without the promotion. I asked HR last week again and got a random announcement email saying my promotion is w.e.f Oct 2021. ( and no raise for the newly promoted role).

Hi All,

Quick question:

If an employee has been with us for 7 years as a part timer (working 20-25 hours a week) do they have be provided with a severance package?

Context: we have a contract with a condominium building to provide services, condo did not renew with us and getting rid of the contract. Therefore resulting in employee losing their part time position, as we have no hours elsewhere. Does the employee get a severance package or three weeks notice is sufficient?

Hi I'm a HR generalist, located in HK and recently had 6 rounds of interview with a US company. I've never experienced any interview process that goes beyond 3 rounds. But as it's all virtual, and could accommodate my schedule (arranged after work) so it's OK. Later they offered me the position, sent me the contracts, but later before I accept it, the hiring manager said they were told by HQ of a hiring freeze...Luckily I didn't accept and quit my job. Is this thing common in US? ;) Thanks all

We’re an international company with generous PTO. In the UK, we have a PTO Lump Sum bank. In the US, we’re stuck on accrual due to risk of not being able to recoup @ termination. I take issue with this as it shows lack of employee trust and asks for under the table PTO deals between managers & employees.
