Spite has grown my bank account pretty nicely. If it no longer serves you as you wish, move on and seek out people who are interested in what you have.
Definitely. They won’t take that request seriously, they just want to keep you on the hook so you increase productivity, and then you never receive a reward from it.
You shouldn’t expect a promotion at 1 year. A raise sure, but not a full promotion.
I spent two years as a coordinator and I was a high performance employee. I think that’s the norm.
One year is too fast. There is a chance you’re not even eligible by HR policy. Share your desires but keep showing consistency on the type of work at the next level.
One year is way too fast.
1 year is not too fast to get the ball rolling if you’re doing a good job, if you’re a junior.
Getting the ball rolling isn’t the equivalent of a promotion.
If you feel confident that the work you’ve done has prepared you for a higher role at a new company then go for it. Similar promises were made to me at my 1 year mark then my 2 year anniversary hit right when the pandemic did, so they strung my promotion along even further. Don’t wait on them if you know you deserve more.
I left my junior strategy role at an independent shop at 12 months for a mid level role at a large agency. If you feel like that promotion isn't coming soon, the best thing you can do is start interviewing and get an idea of what your options are.
Even though I knew I wanted out of my first shop, I still continued to push for my own career advancement there. As long as you send a few applications a week and get an interview every once in a while (while still doing your job well) you're doing great!
I am at a independent agency now so I totally get it. I see myself pivoting into strat, my current place now doesn’t have that. I don’t really have a mentor either so it’s hard:(. would you mind chatting privately? Thanks so much!
A raise is fair. But likely will be waiting at least another year for a promotion. If you've performed really highly then maybe an external company might offer you more... but truthfully, is one year enough to level up? I'm not entirely sure.
1-2 years easy is standard unless someone leaves before. Then, you might get lucky. I’m sure in 2023 you can bring it up again.
The next company will ask why only a year and you’re ready to leave ? However if you’re promoted within the company that def looks better! Good luck either way
Ok great 😇
If you are doing more than you were hired to do and adding value above the role you were hired in to, then start mapping that out. 2 years is the norm for this. Most people do a fair amount of the work required for the position they are promoted in to before being promoted. If you are not, you probably should not expect they are going to hand a new role to you.
