I’ve been offered a job at a publication that is slanted in a way I definitely don’t agree with. However, it’s my only job offer. How much will saying yes hurt me in the future?

Aside from the mental exhaustion of working on projects that don't align with you, working with less reputable publications, like Breitbart, would be a really bad look if you then applied somewhere less reactionary. Not worth it in my opinion

… if it’s not aligned with your beliefs or values, step away.

Agreed, working with a bunch of people that I disagree with is probably one of my worst experiences in my career so far. Sometimes it's okay to compromise, but not at the cost of your sanity haha

It will hurt you a lot because from the start you can see that it is not your place of work, but if it is what is necessary to survive, do it surely that job will open the doors for other jobs, don't you think?

The most credible thing is that it hurts a lot and if that affects your work performance, it is best that you do not accept the job, it does not seem fair to you or to the company that hired you.

The most important thing that you have to keep in mind in case you need the job for economic reasons is that you should change your way of thinking about work, the best way is not to make it personal, just comply with what is required without taking positions in the case.

I agree to some extent, but doing jobs that we don't like is one of the reasons we get so burnt out by work. Just saying, think carefully about what you want your life to look life

It won't completely disqualify you from getting jobs in other places, but also consider that your job impacts your networking opportunities. If you attend events in sphere of people you disagree with you're not as likely to find people you can find connect with for more desirable opportunities.

It's difficult to say definitively without knowing more about your specific situation, but in general, it can be harmful to your career to accept a job in a field where you don't align with the publication's values.

If I were you I'd hold out for any other offers. If you're not comfortable with the slant of the publication, it will likely be difficult to produce quality work that aligns with their standards.

If you ever want to move on from this job, potential future employers may question why you didn't leave sooner if you weren't happy with the work environment, that would definitely be weird in recruiter's eyes. Ultimately, it's up to you to decide whether or not accepting this job is worth the potential risks, but be aware of what you're getting yourself into before making a decision.

Tell me your craziest experience working with a TV network. Here comes mine:

I'm American, but my family is mostly Colombian. I was told my aunt and cousins would come here for 2 weeks. I discovered they were going to be paid to appear in a famous Hispanic TV show, where a "judge" receives a case, hears the plaintiffs and defendants and renders a verdict. But of course, it's all fake and payed 😂 turns out she wanted me to go there (even though I don't work for that TV network) so she's sure she'll be paid at the end of the show. Wth did I just do.
