I’ve been on depo provera for 11 years. It’s been amazing- I haven’t had a cycle in 11 years. My body decided it was time to have one in Jan and then skipped three months and here I am again with a cycle.

I 100% do NOT want a cycle. I was the worst human being when I had them and my life has been great without it. 😂

I’m nervous my doctor is going to tell me it’s time to switch. I will never remember to take the pill on time so IUD is next up. All I have heard are horror stories. Any advice?

I LOVED my IUD. Had a Mirena for 6 years, and then a Kyleena, which I just took out so I could try to get pregnant. As I recall, I stopped bleeding pretty rapidly after first starting, and then didn’t buy tampons for … 8 years. Insertion was mildly uncomfortable, but a few Advil solved that, and honestly what’s a little pinch against 8 years without a cycle? Anyway, couldn’t recommend it highly enough.

I was on Depo for 10 years and when I stopped (husband had ✂️) my hormones went crazy. I was depressed, and thought I had thyroid issues. Nope, it was just the depo!! So pay attention to your body as you come off.

10 years later and divorced I went with a Mirena IUD. It was the best thing I had ever done. At first there was some heavy bleeding and then I never had anymore. Good luck on your decision.

Honestly everyone’s body is different and will react differently to each type of BC so it’s difficult to say how your experience would be.
I’m one of the Mirena horror stories and I would never recommend an IUD personally but some may have positive experiences with it.

I had mine for about a year and a half and had developed soo many negative symptoms, one particularly nasty one that I’m still suffering from 13 years later. PCOS does not run in my family, so it was a complete shock to hear that I had developed cysts on my ovaries during an ultrasound after the IUD was removed. The doctors couldn’t explain why I had no PCOS symptoms or cysts before I had the IUD inserted.
The cysts were only one part of it. I had also developed depression and started having anxiety attacks while I had the IUD and was even put on anti-depression medication, during which I had no idea that they were related to having the IUD until it was removed. I still remember that fog being cleared from my brain the week it was removed. Best decision I ever made.
I also did not have any periods with the IUD.
Hands down having the Mirena inserted was the worst decision I ever made.
That’s just my experience though. But I would definitely pay attention to any new symptoms you may be experiencing for whichever medication you choose.

This happened to my friend - she actually lost an ovary due to a rupturing cyst.

I’ve had Mirena for 10 years, haven’t had a cycle in just as long. Love it!

I went from Depo to Mirena and while the insertion wasn’t great, I continued to have no period.

I had an IUD and it was great. I still had a cycle with mine tho

My sister takes the pill and skips the placebo pills so she never gets a cycle. She allows one every year but that’s it. Set a daily alarm on your phone to take it.

I have the copper IUD because anything with hormones wonks me out… heavier flow and cramps. Not recommended for what you’re after. When I was on the pill, I had a reminder on my phone for that that time every day and took it religiously.

First mirena was expelled and my second mirena traveled through my cervix, got lodged and had to get cut out. Some peoples body reject it and others have no issues at all.

I finally got diagnosed with ADD, inattentive type, at 28 years old. I’ve known I had depression and anxiety for years, but the symptoms and treatment never added up. It took WFH in a pandemic to realize maybe I had ADD, and still months of being dismissed and made to feel like I was crazy before I found a doctor to administer the MMPI. I feel validated, finally, but I can’t help feeling grief too over so much lost potential and unnecessary failure, especially in law school and my career.
