I lateraled a few months ago and have been extremely slow (90-110/mo). This is the first month I’ll probably hit 180-200 and it is so stressful/has taken a huge toll on my mental health (I’m also not crazy about the work I’m doing or the partners I work with). I think it’s clear that big law isn’t for me, but I am a bit guilty feeling like I need a “break” after skating by for the first few months at this firm. I am trying to prove myself and make it to a year, but Idk if I can.

For the last four weeks or so of WFH I’ve been making it to my desk around 7:30/8am and working basically without a break—lunch at desk- but cannot maintain momentum past like 6:30/7:30pm. Most of the day is billable work, but I cannot bring myself to finish outstanding assignments after 8pm, but then feel so guilty when I’m not working past that time. Am I burnout or fucked up? (Also I hate this gig & am not in it for the long haul, just hate not turning things quickly)

How much does making partner relieve the pressure to bill a ton of hours? I’ve never been an especially high biller, and tend to do a lot more BD and knowledge management than most senior associates (so end up working roughly the same amount of hours). I’m pushing very hard on billables to make partner, but hoping the expectation shifts a bit once/if I make it to better align with what I naturally spend my time doing.

Junior Corporate Associate here. How do you accurately track your time on matters when you're toggling between multiple matters at once over the course of a few hours? Normally I use timers to keep track, but stuff has been flying at me fast all afternoon and I haven't had time to take a breath let alone switch my timers. Why do partners send passive aggressive emails to associates when they’re the ones who didn’t give any clear instructions nor expectations or deadlines? There’s this one partner who expects me to drop everything and help him out when I’m used by many other partners. What does he gain from being so mean?
