If you haven’t previously, make sure to try it on a couple of times in a second hand boutique.
It’s an amazing watch on paper, but I didn’t really connect with it in the flesh.

I would save up and get either the 39mm (if you have big wrists) or the new 36mm for average or small wrist.
The jump up in quality is well worth it (mainly the bracelet, but also the fully lumed numerals). And the newer movement will be hassle free for 25 years.

Interesting. I hadn’t been following it to closely. I myself am a 31xx kinda guy anyway. :)
It’s a nice look and low key for a rollie but it does have that logo and the adornment on the hands so it’s not totally incognito.

Idk I wear my air king daily. People rarely know what it is. Most people don’t recognize a Rolex without the fluting and cyclops with the exception of the Daytona. Explorer is a classic

The 36mm explorer is a timeless classic. A watch for life.
Seconding what D1 said, I’ve got a 2018 39mm (214270) and smaller wrists but think the 36mm would feel too small.
That said, love the Explorer I for exactly the reasons you said. Whenever I start looking at new watches I realize that I’ll probably continue to wear this 95% out of the time anyway.
Lol thats one way to go about it, bit early for me to threaten to leave I just got here
Been eying an Explorer myself, I’m noticing prices have been dropping I’d anticipate you can pick one up for the low 5k range or even lower in the coming months.
Whats the price for this one??
How long do we think that Rolex will be on back orders, economy is definitely showing signs of a slowdown?
Anybody wear an explorer without the bracelet? I’m not a bracelet guy so kinda just want to throw one on a nato and wear it very lowkey
Go for a 5 digit model with drilled lug holes

If you’ve been patiently saving, you should patiently wait and get the watch from an AD. The experience of purchasing a Rolex from an AD is pretty surreal. Inventories are becoming more readily available - strengthen your rapport with an AD or two and I’m sure you can land one within the next 6-8 weeks. Enjoy the experience!
I’d try your luck with an AD. These aren’t all that popular and an AD could possibly get them
