I've been stuck in federal my entire career because of my clearance. What's the best way to go commercial and travel more (love the road warrior life)?

Yep. The people who spin the most bullshit about "strategic networking" and "impact" and preach about visibility and all that douchey stuff are usually the least skilled and they're a dime a dozen.

like

If you have a technical skill set it's a lot easier. There's demand for people who can code and manipulate large data sets and model etc... stay away from SI, implementation, strategy, or being a PowerPoint monkey. Those skills are either too specific to your industry (federal) or so generic you wouldn't be able to add value with people who don't know you.

like

SC1: Indeed. Most of the skilled manipulators are nontechnical

Move out of DC

What SL are you in? Lots of people do both federal and commercial. Helps to join a firm-wide COP and find ways to network thru those.

like

I just had possibly the stupidest idea. When benched, immediately "move" to another city where you had a friend and couchsurf. Network hard bc benched and find a commercial project. In a month if it doesn't work out, just move back home and say oops. Just make sure not during a promotion year. Thoughts?

Deciding between $450k condo vs $750k house. Currently live in and will always live in San Diego. $260k TC. Have $100k available for down payment. Don’t want to pay rent anymore. Would you recommend house or condo? House is shabby in up and coming area 30min from beach but 1500sq ft 4 bedroom. Condo is close to beach and 2 bedroom at 800sq ft. HOA fee $200 per month. Travel a lot and ideally can rent place out but not pivotal. Condo and house appreciation are equal over past 10 years

Any agencies in SF looking for an AAE / Junior Account Manager? Just finished up an internship and looking for something full time.

Anyone else tire of the “plant mom” and “dog dad” me too conversation? It seems to be more frequent. For example, company says, “Parents, please share pictures of working from home with your kids during Covid” for a diversity and inclusion project. Undoubtedly someone responds, “what about my plant babies? 🤣”. I don’t want sympathy but I find it childish. Just give us the courtesy of understanding that plants and pets are not the same. Stop “me too’ing”

I’m thinking of quitting breastfeeding. My baby is 5 months old, and my pump just broke, and I don’t think she’s eating enough and she wakes up all the time at night hungry. I’m just tired of it. I’d rather just give her bottles and call it a day. Ready for my husband to take the night feeds, ready to be able to have a drink without worrying about when I have to feed the baby. The actual breastfeeding has been easy, which is why I feel guilty for “quitting.”
