I've been teaching astronomy and running the school planetarium for 5 years now. Just thought it would be nice to share lessons or planetarium shows with others to generate new ideas

Is there any American History Teachers out there using this text book? I'm retiring and the end of this year, and want to pass on Lessons and very cool Crossword Puzzles I've made for every section of this book! I realize mine is the Florida edition. But pretty sure any state edition's text will be the same. I'm not sure the easiest way to get them to you. I'll figure that out if anyone is interested!

Do you adjust your lessons for the holiday season or incorporate the seasons into your lessons? I guess this is mostly for elementary and middle school teachers, but any input is appreciated. Starting at a new school and I want to be festive in some way other than decorating my door.

It's my first year teaching self-contained special education. As I was organizing my materials/planning for next year I realized I will have many of the same students again. I'm trying to figure out how I can preserve/recycle some of my lesson plans if at all.

What do you think that the education system needs to do, to get young people to be better prepared with challenges in life? For example, I grew up in Malaysia, national secondary schools had home science lessons, where we learnt from ironing to cooking to carpentry to sewing to plumbing to soldering on a circuit board where we did individually or in teams. To me, these skills altogether prepped me with a lifelong ‘Swiss Army knife’! Anyone with children with ideas?

Would love to hear your negotiation wins and fails, and lessons learned. One of my learnings is simply to ask. If you don't ask the answer is definitely no. My example was asking for additional equity. I got back a no, but was offered a signing bonus.

How many of you work in a PLC (professional learning community) where you must teach to the same calendar as dictated by the course team? (For example, we all teach lesson 1.1 Monday, 1.2 on Tuesday, Wednesday review and, Thursday give the common assessment.) what are your thoughts?

One thing I struggle to remind myself of is you can only lose so much from a bad investment but gains from a good investment are (sorta) unlimited. If your starting position is $10,000 and the value halves, you're down $5,000. But if the value of a separate position doubles, you're now up a total of $5,000.

I think learning this will help me reach my FIRE goals by eliminating a lot of emotion and impulse in my investment decisions.

What other "life lessons" do any of you have?

Some context: agency let go about 15% of the company a month ago. I was warned by my dept lead more layoffs could happen if we don’t win new business soon. I’m 35w pregnant.

What scenario (if any) is most likely:
- That I’m let go before my mat leave begins
- I’m let go during mat leave
- I’m let go immediately after returning from mat leave

Seems like potential PR nightmare for them, but I can’t ignore the fact that I was given a heads up that layoffs could happen.
