I've been thinking about my career a lot lately. I feel like I've hit a wall, and I don't know how to get past it.

I've been at this job for almost 5 years now, and ever since the day I started, there have been problems with my coworkers. It's not just one person—it's everyone in my department, and they all seem to be working against each other instead of together. Should I leave?

That sounds like a leadership issue. Leave.

Do you have your PE (if your particular industry needs it)? Then get out. I tried to make it work at a company with abrasive coworkers for over 3 years and it made me miserable. Changing jobs will get you more experience, a raise, and potentially better coworkers. Not a silver bullet, but if you've given it 5 years you've given it a fair shake.

The only reason I ask about the PE is that it is way more of a PITA to get a recommendation from your old manager after you've left. If you need a PE, get it, then get out.

Would you feel comfortable telling HR that your service line’s culture sucks and name the individuals who cause it? Or is a better approach saying it’s the leadership in general creating a negative and toxic culture? How effective are these conversations really? Hello, I have a question that needs your inputs how to handle. I am working with a post-MBA Associate on a project and this person seems to do extra work beyond what the team is asking the rest of us to do. I think during our conversations with the leadership, there were a couple of points that were brought up by the MD but that was not a concrete directive that we need to do because if it is, I would know about it from the chain email since I am staffed to the project.

How do you deal with some mild sexism at a startup that has no real HR?

Mild as in there’s just passing comments about me, I’m the only woman on the team, I’m steamrolled a ton in conversation and generally made to feel stupid/awkward. I’m fairly outgoing and outspoken as well, never felt this way at ANY company before.
