I’ve been thinking of taking some time off to have an extra long weekend, but I find I’m always working on the weekend. Can you take a “day off” on the weekend to protect it? I just envision having Monday/Tuesday off and then someone assigning a task on the weekend so I just have to rush to finish it.

I work on the weekends, but it’s MY choice to do so to get caught up on things. Being assigned work on the weekends is really fucked up. If asked to do something in the weekend I respond with “I’m not available this weekend.” If that’s not taken well, start looking for a new job. For me, my salary is not enough to cover having control of my weekends. If I was making crazy money, maybe I’d reconsider that. But honestly this industry it out of control with treating us like they own our entire lives.

Generally I work under the assumption that a Friday or Monday off equals the whole weekend too. If you’re taking M/T off, just tell people you’ll be out of office from Saturday to Tuesday.

Are you able to use Outlook out of office auto reply to protect your time and setting on calendar with out of office status? I had to work during vacation December (not my choice) due to actual work meaning I got called out to respond. This made me all kinds of exhausted balancing family time or rather not able to spend time with family and doing work while neglecting family. Working weekends not helping now. If possible please see about how to take time off. I get it we are all working in different situations so please it’s best to figure out how to balance now.

You’re off on Monday for Family Day right?

Yes, but I was assigned work on the weekend for Tuesday so I will probably work tomorrow. I’m just asking more generally what’s the most strategic way to use vacation days since weekends/stat holidays seem less protected than when you actually take vacation days and reach out and tell people you’re off.

Many of you have young kids... are there any moms of teens here?

I am at a point where my teen's newfound "independence" is starting to impact my focus and time at work - his running off to hang with friends without permission, etc is becoming a distraction during the workday, and the impact has definitely been noticed by my superiors at work.

The issues with the kid are being handled appropriately - this is more about how to overcome perception at work

What are your thoughts about having to take an iq/personality assessment tests? It seems so outdated to me. I don’t think it predicts how you will truly perform at a job. I took a test like this for a startup once and they were concerned about my ability to speak up or behave in social settings. This was completely false. I present, interview clients, demo products, and facilitate meetings for a living. So what if I go home and shut down after work? I’m exhausted from speaking all day!

Hi guys, wanted to know a little bit about the Post Merger Integration(PMI) team at KPMG Global Services.

Would be great if you can share about nature of projects, work life balance, travel etc.

It's a bit frustrating because I'm not sure where to go from here. I've been doing this for 5 years now. Any help on what choice to make? I do not have a backup plan.

Whoever said employers don’t care about grades and transcripts after your first job was a liar. Every lateral position that I’ve applied to as a 3rd year has requested transcripts.
