And I think the continuation of that thought should be: what can I do about it? If it’s actionable then do the action. And if it’s not then try to see it as it is what it is. That’s how I’m trying to tackle my own anxieties. It’s hard, but maybe that might help. Also try to stay busy. Worrying without being able to do anything is very destructive to the mental mindset at this time. We need to find ways to put it away or suppress it as much as we can.

Thanks! Maybe I’m just coming off the first or second phase in the denial-anger-depression-bargaining-acceptance curve.
Something that’s helping me is running outdoors (alone at 12PM when no one’s outside). I’m trying to focus on that. Even bought new shoes online

I tell myself that I can only control what I can control. Maybe you should look to find jobs elsewhere to hedge your future. I try to focus on the present instead of worrying about what ifs in the future. Those do not help me.

Actionable: pay down credit card debt, beef up cash savings and continue contributing to 401ks/ira’s.
If you keep worrying you’ll get fired your work performance will reflect that. It’s a self fulfilling cycle. So take the steps above to feel more secure.

These are excellent tips. Thankfully I have no credit card debt, 6-7 months’ salary saved, and I think I only have 6 payments left on a 2019 VW which shouldn’t require maintenance anytime soon.
I’m trying to brace for impact and carry on - there’s nothing else I can change indeed
We will be fine, our country is strong. Human beings are resilient. No matter what happens, you’ll prevail and we will all together bounce back emerging better than we all were before. We will return with new knowledge and understanding. Stop stressing (I know easier said than done🙂) and you’ve got this!

I think it’s great you bring up this topic. Many of us may seem secure and confident outside, but are dealing with various types of anxiety that are hard to understand because of these times where we are mostly isolated and there are grim news everyday reporting on job losses and uncertainty.
We also probably have more time because we are stuck at home. Insecurities and anxiety are amplified by having too much time and thoughts. It’s a really toxic mix.

And it’s a bit crippling. How are you coping? Our large clients (who are the ones actually manufacuring something) are simply closed down, or at obviously reduced capacity. Not sure the demand for high-end professional services will be there. But I can’t control that, of course.
Maybe I should just power on through this and whatever happens, happens? This is keeping me up at night.
Totally valid fears, but you can only control what’s in your control. Look for ways to stay busy at work, be incredibly helpful to people. Start beefing up your portfolio now, look up your savings and make a “worst case scenario” plan. Being prepared helps me deal with my anxieties. Write out a list of what could go wrong and then write out micro lists of how to prepare yourself for those situations and start doing them. I still have no grasp on how my company is *actually* doing, but I have asked my boss to help me understand how long we’re contracted to be on our client and what, if anything, is down the pipeline. This eased my anxiety a bit, too.

I’d like more information from my leadership, but I think it’s quite common across the board that firms are at least trying to save jobs. Although they won’t say a word on actual financial info
Obsessing about a future you can’t control impedes you from empowering your now.
