I’ve been working as a data analyst for about 5 years, and I’m wanting to switch careers into SE. I recently finished a python course, and I’m unsure of my next steps. I’ve seen some posts about pros and cons of boot camps or learning additional languages but with my current experience, would either of these be a realistic path to get a job? Or would I need something like an additional degree to get my foot in the door? Any advice is welcome!

There is a lot more to SE than just programming. But it sounds to me like you took a python class and now want to look for a job? If not, that wording is strange. If so, multiple languages under your belt. You should also be expected to provide github links to show your past work.

If you know the Big 4- Python, C#, Java, and SQL- you can get a job just about anywhere and blow all the script kiddies out of the water.

I was a data analyst last year as well. Around summer last year, I learned I was interested in more coding so I looked into the required skills to be a data engineer within the same company. I spent around 1-2 hours every day on Udemy courses to learn Python, Spark, Airflow and basic AWS. By November, I joined the hackathon and was able to use the Python skill I learned to do some ETL process.

My boss noticed me and referred me to the manager in the DE deparment. By January, I had the interview and got the job.

Investors should be skeptical of history-based models. Constructed by a nerdy-sounding priesthood using esoteric terms such as beta, gamma, sigma and the like, these models tend to look impressive. Too often, though, investors forget to examine the assumptions behind the models. Beware of geeks bearing formulas.

I recently started my first post-college job as a software developer and have to make a decision pretty soon: front-end development or back-end development. I really like being closer to the user and the creativity as far as front-end. But I also reallly really enjoy math and logic and the more complex side to back-end. My dream would be to do full stack but thats not an option. Scared of getting pigeon holed. Any suggestions as to what to do / tips?

I am a Web Developer based in Grand Rapids, MI. My primary focus is Magento development and managing / building the 7 sites my company owns. I do front and back-end development. I got a raise from $12.50 an hour as an intern to $22 an hour 6 months before I got my degree. I was happy with this raise initially. A year later, I am 6 months out of my degree and have 3 years of experience at this company. They gave me a 5% raise which puts me a $24 an hour. Is this fair considering I got my degree.

What do you think is the actual income ceiling for software engineering, broadly? I'm genuinely curious and don't even know what's possible

My company is adopting Scrum and hiring a bunch of agile coaches to assist with sprints. We got assigned our agile coach that'll be starting soon.

I read a description of what this role is supposed to be for and it sounds like they'll be leading Scrum ceremonies. So they run the planning meeting, the retrospective and daily stand ups. Up to now, I've been doing those and it's taken a total of like 2 hours a week of my time.

What on earth do agile coaches do with the other 95% of their time?
