I’ve been working in operations at a film/tv distribution company in NYC for close to 7 years earning 70k base. This is the only company I’ve ever worked for. I know I have enough experience to qualify as a director because my colleague has this title and they do the same type of work. I’ve also been at the company longer than everyone on my team. I work fairly long hours and often find myself staying after 6 to finish assignments. I don’t get paid OT. What should I negotiate in the next review?

Ask to double your pay.

Research salary range in your industry and location, and aim for the higher end due to your experience.

Thanks. Unfortunately, the range is quite large and I don’t want to ask for a ridiculous amount and risk looking like a fool. This year I asked for 75k from 60k and if it isn’t clear already I did not get it :(

Maybe renegotiate your deal and bring up yoyr key points for a raise

99% of marketers in scaleups are clueless.

I recently setup my own consultancy working directly with scaleulps, after 15+ yrs at some of the best marketing agencies (Droga5, Wiedens and Saatchi & Saatchi).

Having worked with a few lovely founders now it surprises me how inexperienced (or generally bad) the marketing people are that they hire.

Why do you think this is? And how do these people not get found out?

There is so much basic stuff they don't know

Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations

Does it matter when I ask for a raise? My company process is that my manager completes a performance review, then I review what he wrote and after I sign off on it, that’s when raises happen. Last year, they gave a 1% raise and didn’t even tell me about it, so I’m wondering, should I wait and see what they give this year and then negotiate or ask for it before I sign off on my review?

I’m currently 6 months into my first job, and I plan on bringing up my salary during my 1 year performance review (we do 1 every quarter). Since our company doesn’t have stocks, my TC would just be base salary + benefits. When doing my research on the market value and average compensation for similar roles in the same location (I’m going to be using levels.fyi), would it be fair to compare my TC with the TC of a company that offers bonuses such as stock bonuses? Over 20 plus years with this company my base pay has gone up every couple of years. The biggest growth in my salary has come as a "Bonus pd 1x/yr" which now is over 50% of my cash compensation. Base plus bonus plus benefits is on the Lower half of my industry Salary Value from talking to industry colleagues.

I may have an opportunity for a new position with another company starting around the first of the new year. My concern is that the "bonus" is not paid until March. What to do?
