I’ve contributed 19.3 out of 19.5k to my 401 already this year. Another biweekly contribution will push me way over. Do brokerages automatically limit to 19.5? If so, how, does it work? Does the remaining go into the liquid fund account with your brokerage or do they coordinate with employer to ensure it isn’t overfunded?

🥺🥺🥺

From auditing 401k plans, I can say it depends on the company. Some rely on the participant to cut themselves off at the max while other companies have systems in place to prevent participants from exceeding the max. So I’d recommend calling your HR/benefits team and asking the question

Will do, thanks!

At Accenture it just stops at the max (19.5k). The rest of the $ you would have contributed goes back into your paycheck. It has done so at two other employers I have worked at too.

like

One thing to note, if your company matches will they continue to match if you maxed out this early.

PwC matches every pay period, so if I max out too early, then I’ll miss out on the remaining amounts.

like

OP we’re the same way. Matched dollar for dollar up to 6% of salary, immediately vested and deposited in Feb. Have to employed by the firm on 31 December.

They generally automatically stop contributions at the 19.5 limit

like

You can always go post-tax contributions. The total contribution limit is closer to 56k when adding post-tax in.

Also maxed out 6k on Roth IRA, but employer doesn’t allow mega backdoor so bust :/

I'm from the UK and looking to move the US sometime soon with a view to buy and currently on a 1.4% interest rate on my UK property secured about 12 months ago for the next 5 years (so a good time to do it).

But seeing much higher interest rates mentioned on here so curious to get a temperature check on people's current deals.

Anyone buy property in South/Central America ? Considering making an investment in a unit in Panama City, Panama. Friends and I visit here and there + AirBnb seems to work well there. We have a lawyer contact and have a friend that purchased down there, but they aren’t as concerned about short term rental cash flow. Overall purchase price is low (300K) for a nice large condo in a nice area of the city. Just curious on the thoughts of others.

I’m thought a Myrtle beach condo but am concerned about HOA fees and requirements to rent through the in house management company. Nc rent rolls aren’t really keeping up with prices. Any suggestions? @

I have a relative traveling from Russia, who can get me Chanel bag from Chanel boutique in Moscow. Due to currency fluctuation and sales tax difference I can get 19 for 4732 vs local 4800+sales tax, which would be like $300 savings. Not much, but I’m cheap. I don’t like Chanel that much, but it seems like a good investment. So from the investment perspective - would you buy 19, 19 maxi, boy bag, Gabrielle or WoC? And would you buy it in neutral color and material or buy the latest fashion?

What does the progression track look like for post-mba consultants at MBB? Specifically, are there notable differences in promotion timing amongst the firms? I’ve noticed on LinkedIn that several BCGers have reached principal level in 3.5 years (2 as consultant, 1.5 as PL) whereas it seems to take a minimum of 4 years but sometimes even 5 for McK to reach AP level (which I believe is the equivalent?) Is this an accurate assessment?

Would it be a smart idea to put 80k on a investment property in today’s market
Or should I wait for the conditions to get better? Today, house prices are relatively high and properties are selling ~20k over listing price. I am not sure if waiting will help though.

Property in Maryland Gaithersburg, DC commute.
Return would ~11% on 80k accounting for taxes, insurances, 5% vacancy and 10% emergency fund.

1. Is Fidelity is Vanguard better?
2. What’s the best advice you could give me on what to consider or do during the rollover process?
3. Is it better to roll over to my new employer’s 401k plan or just convert to an IRA not managed by an employer?
