I’ve done insurance defense for 8 years. Maxed out on salary. Burnt out on this field. I want out. Out of this field, out of this career, I don’t care. What would be some ideas for a path where my skills would be transferable? Please help.

I was an insurance defense attorney for 7 years. I was also in house counsel for two insurance companies for 6 of those years. I hated it. The lack of pay, staff and respect. I was able to go in house for a University. Very chill and laid back. Pay was more but still not enough to keep me around permanently. While there, I handled all of their contracts so I was lucky enough to learn a new skill. I was able to get my foot in the door because I was the only attorney in the office who knew how to litigate- so I would monitor their litigation files handled by outside counsel. After three years, I was able to market myself to tech companies. I increased my salary by about $70k with the jump from the University to the tech company handling tech contracts. It takes time but worth it.

How do I break into that field? Seems like it’s just an in-house position, no? How is the pay

You should do plaintiff’s personal injury, if you are interested. You certainly have the skills/knowledge if you did PI insurance defense.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I have been there as well. I dream of a life someday without reviewing medical records from auto accidents :/

Where are you located? Listen it’ll be super easy to get into claims with your experience but it’s not the most exciting it’s something you do so you can have a life

I understand you are over the work, but why don’t you go work directly for an insurance carrier? No billables, normal work schedule, and you can work your way up to management and sometimes other quasi-legal roles at the company that can pay really well

What would be the starting salary for a manager in PwC AC?

We’re getting married next spring and trying to put together our website.
Many weddings we’re attending this year have some sort of Covid-disclaimer on them saying “please have a negative PCR test or be vaccinated beforehand” (paraphrasing), but it’s the honor system, no one is checking.
For 2022, is that type of language necessary? Vaccines will have been out 1 year. The state we are getting married won’t require it (southern state), it feels like it’s on the individual wedding to say (or not).

Started at a new firm 5 months ago and I still don’t have a full workload and because of that my billing sucks. I’ve reached out to my supervising attorney, 2 partners, and even looped in someone from admin just to see if she knew if anyone needs help. I specifically say things like “can I take some work off your hands? I need more billable work” and I get a few small things but still behind on my total billables.
