I’ve fallen into a really bad trap of doing the bare minimum. Docketing, maybe, 5 hours a day, pushing things off. It’s getting bad.

Any advice on getting me out of this slump would be greatly appreciated!

Sometimes I have the same problem when I’m feeling undervalued and unappreciated. So I try to do things my future self will thank me for. And I know it’s cheesy but when something goes well later I go “hey! Thanks past self you’re the freaking best!!”

Have you heard of the book eat that frog! The idea is you start the day with the tasks you’re looking forward to the least and by getting them over with, you’re off to a great start. That being said.... I’m in the same boat

I get this way at times when things become redundant (not necessarily the work I’m doing but the redundancy of work itself with nothing else to break up the days or week from the weekend, etc.). It’s hard to overcome it, but no amount of motivation will get you moving. Action begets motivation, not the other way around. Simply put, you have to get up, start working, and keep up the momentum. The motivation to keep it up will follow. I’m the opposite of the frog thing... I have to start with tasks that I enjoy and let the momentum carry me through doing the rest.

I’m in a rather peculiar situation. I have been in the HR field going on 4 years, I have over 11 years of management experience, I got my PHR last year and I recently graduated with my MBA with a concentration in HR this month. I am ready for a more challenging role. However, there doesn’t seem to be much available at my current company. However, I am going on 5 months pregnant with the expectation of being out in October. I feel like once I mentioned my pregnancy I was in a holding pattern.

I recently learned from 3 different employees that left (voluntarily) they were making 98-105k. They were outside candidates and were all hired within the last year and for the same position, and same regional territory. I have worked for the company 3+ years and went from a core position, to large loss. I was given a 10k raise putting me around 78k. Yes.... some of these individuals have Lardge Losss experience but does that really make a 20-25k difference? Any advise!?

I am at a boutique firm and primarily work with two partners. With one I feel like I love what I do as I have autonomy, client contact and am not afraid to screw up. If that continued I can see myself staying at this firm for the long term. On the other hand when I work with the other, I am not in the loop on anything, feel like an idiot and wonder whether I’ll be around for long. To keep it short I am a non traditional 2nd year associate who was a non-atty in the same industry for 5 yrs prior.
