A WM was just named DEI lead for our department. He keeps talking and writing messages in ways which prioritize the aggressor’s feelings, the aggressor’s safety, and “positive intent.” He also talks and writes about “How to not jump from kindergarten to college in one conversation when it involves DEI.” He never talks or writes about inclusion or making things safe for BIPOC. I live in and absolutely love California. No other state compares in my mind (industry, career opportunities, salary, culture, diversity, food, weather, landscape, political inclination, etc). If I were to consider temporarily (2-3 years) moving to another state to accumulate more wealth on the way to FI, what states (specifically cities) would make me least miserable?

Does anyone notice there has been an increase of Asian Americans suddenly trying to benefit from initiatives fought for by Black Americans while claiming their struggle trumps that of Black Americans? I find it strange. At my firm, I am a senior exec who have seen Black colleagues fight for 7+ years for diversity initiatives and we have finally gotten some notice at my firm. Nobody wants to be a minority until it’s beneficial to be one. And I peep the game and the change in behavior
Best consulting firms for real inclusion?
Has anyone seen firms hold successful, well-received diversity/cultural events? Especially firms with low diversity numbers but an interest in increasing awareness and education without patronizing.
So I typically don’t answer the EEO questions at the end of applications that ask for race and gender. Lately I’ve noticed companies following up via email for this information after I submit the application. Am I the only one who does this? Does it even matter? Any thoughts on the follow up emails asking for the information after the application has already been submitted?

I just watched the KPMG boss video and honestly I feel it can be interpreted in different ways. You can tell when a person says something to intentionally hurt you and when they can’t just fathom the implications based on how people interpret it. As we learn to work in an increasingly diversity focused environment I pray there’s room for forgiveness. Mind you I am a person of color. Since George Floyd's murder and the sudden Corporate America "wokeness," I (black guy) have been routinely contacted by unacquainted Partners who explicitly state something to the effect "Client X wants diversity, so we'd like you on this deal..." It really comes across as tone deaf and completely patronizing. I appreciate the efforts to diversity (albeit forced), but Partners really need to learn how to not be so supercilious in the approach. You don't have to overtly state that I'm the quota.
