I have my 3rd out of 4 interviews today for an internal transfer. This position wouldn’t be a promotion but rather a lateral move. 4 interviews? That’s more than an outside hire, the whole reason I’m being considered is my unique value I’ll be bringing to that department.

P.s my final interview is with my current manager who is NOT in charge of the new department… he also told me he didn’t think I was ready for the change when I initially told him I was making a move. Let’s see how it goes!

Hireright called me & asked me for the name of my medication, name of pharmacy & their phone number. I called my pharmacy (big retail pharmacy) & they said they don’t give medical info to anyone that’s not my doctor … I’m afraid my offer will be rescinded. I’m freaking out. So I had been working as medical interpreter up to the early part of this year. Today, during an interview, the Director with whom I was interviewing genuinely urged me to consider pursuing a career as a PA or even attempt to go to medical school. I had considered it in passing before but today was about the third or fourth time that someone had earnestly nudged me in that direction. Has anyone here made such a career pivot before? When the GDPR wall went up, what side were you on - outside counsel or in-house - and how has your experience been since then?

Hi all! Has anyone else been interviewing for in-house, mid-level Privacy counsel roles? I have found these interviews to be extremely demanding (11+ 45min-1hr interviews with technical/legal specific questions + 10hr writing assessment). Has any one else experienced this? Is anyone else finding that these assessments are becoming more of a norm in the interview process for privacy roles? Thoughts on this or advice? Thank you!

For someone whose practice focuses almost exclusively on GDPR issues, how much prep is really needed for CIPP/E? I prepped extensively for CIPP/US (I felt over prepared) and want to add EU to my resume. I’m in house and farm a lot of work out to outside counsel, but am hoping to take on a bit more myself. I think the credential may help slightly. Does anyone know of the test has been updated post-Schrems and the recent new SCC and EDPB recommendations?

I was offered a DPO role at $215k + 15-20% bonus (no RSUs)… I asked for another $50k to the base or I walk. They said sorry. So I walked. I feel great about my decision. I have other offers on the table that pay $300TC. BUT if I didn’t have the other offers, what would you have recommended to do? Do agree that $215k base + bonus is too low?

Hi all! I’m inclined on taking up the CIPM training and certification exam. I’m already a certified Data Protection Officer in the Philippines. I intend on skipping CIPP as it applies to the US and EU.

How difficult was the exam? Can you share your experience studying for the CIPM exam? Is it advisable to skip CIPP?

Low billable, low pressure work in privacy law? Slowly realizing that as my boys get older, the money isn’t worth what I’m missing out on. Currently a tech litigation associate with lots of hearing, depo and trial experience (I’ve appeared on my own at hearings/depos) at a well respected firm. I have limited privacy experience despite being hired for that reason… Have my CIPM and CIPP/US /E and /C. Remote preferred; hubs is pilot with cool intl transfer opportunities. Money isn’t issue.

So as a 30ish yo with a government/PE/tech background and CIPM/CIPP… I’m finding privacy work is just much easier and interesting than other kinds, but still pays plenty well.

Is it too late/inadvisable to go to law school to specifically aim for privacy work?

I just find some firms are unwilling to entertain the idea that anyone but a lawyer has anything relevant to contribute in this space…

I am in-house at an insurance company and have decided to completely transition out of the insurance industry. I have registered to take the CIPP/US exams but was advised to take CIPP/E too. What else should I be doing? Potentially looking at entry privacy in-house corporate counsel positions.
