Ive got 3 years of data privacy law in addition to corporate practice. I want to transition to exclusively privacy law, ideally in biglaw. Anyone in this type of position willing to chat with me?

I have my 3rd out of 4 interviews today for an internal transfer. This position wouldn’t be a promotion but rather a lateral move. 4 interviews? That’s more than an outside hire, the whole reason I’m being considered is my unique value I’ll be bringing to that department.

P.s my final interview is with my current manager who is NOT in charge of the new department… he also told me he didn’t think I was ready for the change when I initially told him I was making a move. Let’s see how it goes!

I don’t want to just submit an application online because I’ve been doing that for a while and I feel like I’m just screaming into the void. Is there any other way to apply to this position? I was thinking about reaching out to someone within the practice but not sure how appropriate/acceptable that would be. Any advice would be really helpful.

I have a post-MBA offer with Accenture Strategy and I'm seeking advice on whether I should pursue this offer, or if I should continue to recruit for MBB (which may open more doors/opportunities). I previously worked 4 years at Deloitte Consulting.

Where do people from Accenture Strategy (not Accenture Management Consulting) tend to go? Is it possible to have similar opportunities as MBB firms or do you have to work harder to get MBB-type opportunities?

❗️PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION FOUND IN DRUG TEST❗️As expected, it was found in a drug test as part of a background check for a conditional job offer. Hireright called me & asked me for the name of my medication, name of pharmacy & their phone number. Has this happened to anyone? What do I do?

So I had been working as medical interpreter up to the early part of this year. Today, during an interview, the Director with whom I was interviewing genuinely urged me to consider pursuing a career as a PA or even attempt to go to medical school. I had considered it in passing before but today was about the third or fourth time that someone had earnestly nudged me in that direction. Has anyone here made such a career pivot before? I love working in healthcare, there’s nothing like it.

Hi all - we have an opening for our in-house data privacy group (big company with global presence). Hi all! Has anyone else been interviewing for in-house, mid-level Privacy counsel roles? I have found these interviews to be extremely demanding (11+ 45min-1hr interviews with technical/legal specific questions + 10hr writing assessment). Has any one else experienced this? Is anyone else finding that these assessments are becoming more of a norm in the interview process for privacy roles? Thoughts on this or advice? Thank you!

For someone whose practice focuses almost exclusively on GDPR issues, how much prep is really needed for CIPP/E? I prepped extensively for CIPP/US (I felt over prepared) and want to add EU to my resume. I’m in house and farm a lot of work out to outside counsel, but am hoping to take on a bit more myself. I think the credential may help slightly. Does anyone know of the test has been updated post-Schrems and the recent new SCC and EDPB recommendations?

Hi all! I’m inclined on taking up the CIPM training and certification exam. I’m already a certified Data Protection Officer in the Philippines. I intend on skipping CIPP as it applies to the US and EU.

How difficult was the exam? Can you share your experience studying for the CIPM exam? Is it advisable to skip CIPP?

Many thanks in advance.

Low billable, low pressure work in privacy law? Slowly realizing that as my boys get older, the money isn’t worth what I’m missing out on. Currently a tech litigation associate with lots of hearing, depo and trial experience (I’ve appeared on my own at hearings/depos) at a well respected firm. I have limited privacy experience despite being hired for that reason… Have my CIPM and CIPP/US /E and /C. Remote preferred; hubs is pilot with cool intl transfer opportunities. Money isn’t issue.

So as a 30ish yo with a government/PE/tech background and CIPM/CIPP… I’m finding privacy work is just much easier and interesting than other kinds, but still pays plenty well.

Is it too late/inadvisable to go to law school to specifically aim for privacy work?

I just find some firms are unwilling to entertain the idea that anyone but a lawyer has anything relevant to contribute in this space…
