I’ve got a relatively minor medical procedure scheduled before Thanksgiving, and I just signed a new job offer. Is it cool to bring this up during start date discussions? Would ideally recuperate for a week before starting officially and getting on boarded. TIA!

Wont you need insurance? I'd push start date back or forward based on when you want to start to make sure you don't need COBRA.

Are you on an SO’s or your parents insurance? Agree with A1, you need to think about switching payers during an episode of care. Also possible the new insurance is not in network for your current provider.

Yep! I would frame it as: - I can start now, but need to get this procedure done on X date and will need to recuperate OR - I can start in December as I have a medical procedure. Let them choose, you might surprised! Had a friend getting married who was changing companies and was taking 3 weeks for wedding / honeymoon and the company was like just work for 2 weeks and then go on wedding / honeymoon. (They had unlimited PTO!)

My husband and I get along great on the weekends - we are amazing cohosts, we love to go out together, we find eachother compelling and charming. We also do well in “emergencies” - when one of us is sick or we a specific tough issues. But it feels like every weeknight is a tense and unpleasant chore of “who will make this decision about dinner/tv/how much time we should spend together in the evening vs doing our own thing” and I just feel like I can’t stand him only to be in love again Friday…

I work at a boutique that is not very well known, I went on sick leave for personal reasons, which they have been very supportive of. And while on it I received an opportunity to back to a big name I worked for before moving to the boutique. I've only been here for about 7 months. Would it look bad if I agreed to take the offer to boomerang? I'm very confused, everyone I know is saying I shouldn't do it.

At my company we’ve just been instructed to take no action on long term sick cases. None. If they want to return they can but otherwise they just sit like ghosts on our books. I'm curious how many ghost employees in the system it will take before the decision is reversed.

Open Enrollment Q: Debating between High Deductible (for HSA) & PPO options. My spouse has some expensive medications. Annual insurance allowed amount is ~$40K for us in 2021. Since we are currently on PPO, we only paid ~$500 out of pocket. With a high deductible plan, we would pay ~ $7K out of pocket since HD Plan only pays 90% after the deductible. Is there anyone in similar situation? Does enrolling in a high deductible plan for HSA make sense in this case? Anyone in similar situation?
