I’ve got a screener for in-house tomorrow. Any tips for getting through to the next round? Coming from a law firm.

Have a good reason for wanting to transition (e.g. you want to work more proactively than reactively or you want to be a part of helping grow the business from the inside, not you hate billing time). Have a good reason for why you want to work for that company, specifically. Articulate how your law firm experience both lines up with position’s needs and gives you a unique perspective that will add value to an in-house legal department. Say you like to work collaboratively, but you are also comfortable taking ownership of a task or initiative. Have a good personality (and try to fake one if you don’t).

In house counsel teams can be pretty tight knit.. something that sets their selection process off is whether they can see themselves working with you all the time, so let your personality show

Thanks everyone. Screener went ok I think. Pretty fast. Said she’s passing me to the hiring manager to decide whether he wants to talk to me 🤞🏻

Don’t worry. Some companies are slower than others — it really depends on how busy people are. A friend of mine who recently went in-house spent 4 months doing three rounds of interviews with her current company (hiring manager, on-site, meeting the chief counsel). They just didn’t have time to do interviews for about a month.

Echoing both of the prior comments. Have those down and you will be far above the rest. Also, show how you can hit the ground running. If they aren't a current client, research the company. Rather than just knowing the law, you also have to know intimately how the company/industry works and be able to translate legalese/legal concepts to business leaders.

Hi Nagarrians, it's been 45 days now since I joined Nagarro I was assigned a team at the time of joining but since then I am waiting for interview to take place. Is this normal procedure? Although from day 2 my project manager asked me to fill the timesheet corresponding to one project which is no billable. I am having concerns now as I don't know if this is normal ?

I think I’m a personable person and I good worker but I’m not sure people will look past not having CPA coming from PA. Thoughts?

Additional Posts in In-House Counsel

Just received an in house offer for a financial company. Been in house at a different company for a couple years, however, the offer is 40% more then what I make now and hybrid (2days a week in office). Just hesitant to accept as I’m comfortable where I’m at but this is a $60k increase in pay. Hours seem to be 9-5:30/6, no weekends. Should I leverage the offer with my current company? I did that last year with another offer and they did match. I don’t. Think they will match but somewhat close.

Here are some thoughts on metrics: compensation, culture, retention, promotion frequency, outside counsel use

How often are you tasked with dealing with administrative and commercials in your in house role? Lately I have been receiving loads of commercials and constantly asked for summaries etc; however, this seems like something a contract manager or specialist should be doing. Also, I have been asked to update reports dealing with commercial values now, which again seems out of the scope of my role…
