I’ve got an offer for a job I think is going to be much more interesting than my current role and significant pay bump. Downside is it’s permanent WFH and I think part of why I’ve got the urge to leave DT is the lack of people connection right now. Worth it?

Permanent WFH is my dream. It all depends on where you are in life and what’s important to you. Getting rid of a commute has allowed me to spend more time with family and get my workouts in regularly. Just think about how this would fit in your overall quality of life. Besides I’m sure your boss or whomever will still host the occasional get together

Take it and find a way to get your people connection fix outside of work. Join a community club / rec league, volunteer, go to networking events, etc.

like

If it’s a career pivot, yes. Even if you don’t like wfh taking the role will help getting better exits that are aligned closer to your goals in the future

More interesting, more money, and permanent WFH? Sounds like a crappy gig, don’t take it

funny

Believe me I know it sounds dumb and tons of people disagree with me. But full time work from home stinks

like

Tbh, I’m not a fan of wfh. The people connection is important and needed to solve complex problems. If you can solve all your problems at home, is that job really going to challenge you and allow growth?

like

Yeah sorry I’m being a bit dumb right now haha. But yeah absolutely right about the last part

Take the job, it won't be hard to transition from that to something not-WFH

like

I’d hate permanent WFH so to me I wouldn’t do it or I’d consider an office share or somewhere else to work

I think it’s more about your preference and where you are with life. If you’re in a serious relationship/having a family, then I think you might prefer this. However, if you’re young and fresh out of school, then I don’t think you’d enjoy this (many of my coworkers became good friends in non-wfh environment).

Makes sense. I have two young kids so I’m probably biased about WFH

Ethical question: would you try to negotiate a raise in current job if you know you’re actively looking elsewhere? Context: had an incredibly challenging year with a huge project that completed successfully. Extremely complex tasks and long hours. Got an award for “disruption” but in summary, the role evolved and now I want to ask for market adjustment /as well as merit raise. I also hate what I do at the moment and can’t wait to leave, but might take months. Should I still ask for a raise?

Ad agency designer desperately looking for an out but I have a possible new job opportunity. Here is my dilemma: Pros.... more money, no crazy client demands, pitches or decks or even prospective clients that will go nowhere (in-house), better benefits Cons.... this is a big one - it’s healthcare I’ve been at agencies with a range of clients for the past few years. Career suicide taking an in-house healthcare job? Especially if role focuses more on growth & performance over design?
