Yeah, agree with what was said. We look at books we like and THEN bring them in to interview. Are you passionate or low energy during your interviews? Does your personality or humor come through? Do you find things in common with the interviewer?
Look at it this way, these interviews were just practice for the next gig you land. 👍🏼 If you call yourself an average interviewer, maybe by the time you land a new gig, you’ll be pretty darn good at interviewing. Keep your head up. Stay positive. You got this. 💪🏼
Do you do research on the agency you’re interviewing at? Look at their work? Their CCO? What they stand for? Do you speak thoughtfully about your work? What you process is?
They usually don’t bring you into the interview unless they think your book is a match. The interview is a personality match.
This may sound a little bit obvious, but it really wasn’t obvious to me. You have to be super passionate and upbeat about wanting to work at these places in your initial conversations with agencies. That’s the single most thing that worked for me in moving me beyond initial contact. Granted, it may not be the same for everyone, but it’s what worked for me. Early on, it’s really about creating the option of working at the place so that you can make an informed decision later on in the process. GL
