Why would you ever put something like that in writing? That absolutely should have been a phone conversation.

like

@OP do you know why he was doing that?

Respectfully disagree with D1. If this is an issue having it in writing isn’t the worst thing. As long as it was professional. But sounds like you’re playing out a weird worst case scenario in your head for no reason? Sounds like you need to chill. :-) it really doesn’t sound realistic to me that someone would be fired over this unless you’re leaving something out.

smart

Leaving nothing out and the email was extremely professional. Maybe I am overthinking this because of how we're designed to think it's okay to keep taking shit from the client because of how much they pay for our services, etc.

But maybe you should think about intermediary feedback in the future. Like a private 1:1 with someone to check them. Then maybe a private email. And from there involving others if absolutely necessary.

Similar situation - I responded back to the person, his manager and my Director. This way it was a reduced audience and I was very direct. Called him out on his insensitive comments to the team.

A conversation would have helped and would have probably been creating less friction. It’s important to try to understand how people think and what are their problems. Of course, there’s the usual share of aholes, but most cases can be resolved in a more pacific way.

How was he rude specifically?

You mentioned tone and general sense of disrespect but I was curious about what he was doing on email that spurred your exchange.

Sorry that you experienced this, not okay. Your Director and the partner can take it from here. This client is junior so his boss will get involved and it’ll be handled. Do you have to work with this client? Maybe there is another role or approach.

But cannot stop thinking about the worst case scenario (being rolled off or fired) if this person were to involve senior client leadership.

SM1 - I responded to your other comment. This isn't a coaching opportunity.
