If you feel a raise is needed, it can't hurt to have the conversation. If you are concerned about losing your job over this, do not give them an ultimatum. As we know times are tough. Simply talk it through with your direct manager first (your creative / art director or whoever oversees your work), explain why you think you deserve this raise.
I was fortunate to have a manager that wanted me to grow. She taught me the best way to convince them is by showing them your worth for the company. How have you helped them be successful? Talk about your experience in the field. And propose a fair and competitive rate. (Be sure to do your research on this, and not base your numbers on just your friends. Rates change based on location and many other factors.)
In the past, I've created a one-pager infographic with all of these details. It included a list of the projects I led and provided stats that showed my impact on the success of the company. My manager helped to put in the request for this with upper management.
If you don't have someone above you to vouch for your case, still craft all of these details beforehand, and present it in person (or virtually) to the decision-makers of your company.
No one is going to stand up for you but you. If you feel you're more valuable, ask for more money.
Well, are you satisfied with what you earn? This is the most important question. Don't compare to others unless you feel your work is underappreciated. Would that amount make you feel better? Don't get me wrong, I totally recommend anyone to aspire for more, professionally, not necessarily financially.
I totally feel you, I know how it is to feel underpaid. But check to see if it's an isolate case or your company is really underpaying you.
I also heard about some juniors on some companies getting same amount as a senior on another company, but in most cases, the companies had big troubles retaining them, because of various reasons and that's way they were paying more than the average in the region.
