I went through this recently. I never went to get evaluated because I was already “successful” so it seemed like I didn’t have it. During the pandemic, it really spiraled out of control for me. I went through my insurance to find a psychiatrist in my area. In particular, I looked for one who noted adult adhd in the services on their website. I set an appointment (took 6 months to get an appointment as a new patient). After some testing/interviewing, I was diagnosed with ADHD inattentive
Literally has the same experience. The psych I saw thinks I always had some degree of ADHD inattention but I coped well until I went remote work with covid. She actually mentioned it’s been a common experience with remote work.
Got diagnosed also recently (age 30) and was so helpful to understand my brain. However, even on meds it isn’t a cureall and requires soo much effort too. There’s lots of good resources to help - for example “How to adhd” on YouTube or “adhd alien” on Twitter. Good luck !!
Hope this helps!
I’ve also went through the same thing recently. You can always start with your primary physician and ask them to refer you to a clinic, to undergo testing.
Thank you.
I found an ADHD-specialized psychiatrist through the Psychology Today website. I had a wonderful experience because I knew my doctor understood ADHD and wouldn’t work around a diagnosis, which was especially important to me as a woman with the inattentive presentation and a “late diagnosis” at 28. Best of luck, OP! You’re going to be so glad once it’s done. Just having the diagnosis was a relief and it’s helped me be kinder and more patient with myself as I get better.

The service “Done.” I believe does all of the evaluating and treatment plans - I haven’t used it since I have a provider but see the ads all the time. They don’t take insurance and it’s a monthly fee instead. If you can’t get a psych appointment, it may be a good resource.
Thank you.
Might depend on what state you live in, but a lot of people don’t realize, your PCP can diagnose you. I think it’s something related to it being a central nervous system disorder; thus, doesn’t necessarily have to go through a psychiatrist. I took a short, written test, and diagnosis was very easy. That was in GA.
My PCP didn’t want to get anywhere near it — especially given the meds being a highly controlled substance.
Recently started realizing I’m an ADHD and now a lot of my past struggles make sense. However, I don’t want to take meds. Any advice on how to manage this beast without medication?
I’m concerned about growing dependency and also about the long term side-effects
