I haven’t shared mine with anyone at work except one person. I haven’t shared mine with my family. I was also diagnosed as an adult. I came from the generation when people were just starting to get diagnosed on the regular and so I still feel a bit of shame around it. I’m also a woman so even more so since we tend to go undiagnosed for years since we don’t present adhd in the same way as men. I’m sometimes in denial about the whole thing but the meds make a difference. Most of the time when I’m not on them people just think I’m “down” that day like I’m sad or something when really I’m just struggling. I went under the radar for years because I was high functioning and high achieving so I didn’t have the usual story of “failing” at things. I actually got diagnosed when I went in thinking I was dealing with either anxiety or depression. I personally don’t like making excuses and struggle with the idea of being stigmatized by letting people know my diagnosis so I don’t see the value in sharing. Maybe this is the wrong approach but it’s mine and it’s how I’ve dealt with it. I think it’s because I don’t feel like I want it to define me. It’s just a thing I have to deal with and manage. Much like many other people have their battles they need to fight every day. Good luck on your journey. And remember that meds are just one tool in your toolkit. Diet, therapy, and exercise are critical to managing adhd as well.

I will add one thing on how I indirectly communicate the accommodations I need for adhd. When I kick off all my projects (since I’m the leader) I establish some norms that make it okay for people to share when they are having an off day because we all have them. That makes it easier for me to communicate with my team when I’m not 100% that day. Additionally I put some boundaries around hours I’m the least productive and what I need to recharge and be most effective.

I’m a 2nd year civil litigation associate at a mid-sized firm in south Florida. My dream has always been to go in house but was dissuaded by law school professors telling me not to. I’m at a crossroads now because I’m OVER the billing, but my boss and direct team is quite possibly the most amazing and supportive group. My boss is always willing to let us work remote or take vacations. My question is, is the grass greener on the other side? Should I go in house now or wait another 3 years?

My wife doesn’t invest her money in stocks, mutual funds , CDs. She just has a 401k and all her savings go into a savings account which basically yields nothing. I coax her into investing and have often told her about inflation over the years and lower of compounding but she is too scared that investing would take her money away. How can I become more “okay” with being an average performer? I’m two years out of school and have been considered a high performer so far, but it’s taken a toll on my mental health and I feel anxious most days. I’ve realized that the cost of being a high performer outweighs the benefits, and am trying to loosen up and be more comfortable with coasting on occasion... I’m what people may consider an insecure overachiever. Has anybody here ever had the same feeling?

Neither of my parents have a 401k, investments, or savings. They have nothing. I want to help them retire at 65 which would be about 15 years away. I’m looking to put about $15k/ year until then into an account for them. A couple questions i have though: 1. What type of investment account would be best to maximize? 2. Once gifted to them, will they be taxed if they receive a certain amount? I have little to no knowledge in investing so I’m open to any other ideas and/or advice.

I’ve been getting left out of or forgotten from a few meeting invites and links to imp. things such as remote shoot viewings. Today was the 5th time it happened this year. I know I shouldn’t think of it much, but it does bring me really down and makes me feel like I’m invisible + less capable than my partner. My white male creative partner has never been left out of one. It doesn’t help that I’m an introverted woman of color who is less vocal. Has this happened to you? How did you overcome it?
