I’ve had two convos with partners about my low hours, but I keep getting staffed on deals that immediately die. I feel like if I was crappy at my job or lazy I wouldn’t be getting staffed on new matters, it’s totally out of my control that they die before I get any real hours out of them. So frustrating to feel like I’m being accused of being lazy or that no one wants to work with me when I just can’t help a bad string of deals dying.

If any partners are reading this, please don’t assume the worst about associates with a few months of low hours. Some of us are really trying and it’s temporarily out of our control☹️

Omg I am trying to pick back up from after taking off for a new bar exam and all my cases keep getting stayed or settled or delayed. I’m also going on parental leave in about 2 months so I’m concerned this means I’ll kiss my end of year bonus goodbye

I’m contracting with a company in an admin role, but sometimes I’m asked to do projects that would normally be outsourced to a marketing or design company like designing a flyer for example. It’s not in my job description, but I have the skills to do this work and so why not ask me to do it? Is it out of the question to ask if I can be paid for that work under a separate fee as a consultant or something? Is that even possible?

Ninjacart is ready to make an offer but they want me to take up Node js/React js development(Web/Hybrid Android) while my 6 years of experience is in Native Android Development. They're willing to train me on those technologies as my experience doesn't match. Is it worthwhile to switch to new Technologies for an experienced professional?

I’m dating someone new and it is going very well. He is kind, not high strung, with great values and shares my sense of humor. It is so easy and natural to spend multiple days with him.
Still I am having doubts because I think he isn’t very “intellectual”. To be clear, he’s intelligent! He is a great STEM role that requires an advanced degree. We share a love of reading as well. However he is not really interested in world affairs, does not follow the news closely, does not have a strong grasp

Is it okay that I’ve been a slow junior as we’re hours away from closing? I’m trying to be proactive and available to cross things off the list but I’m SLOW: takes me long enough that they do it themselves (even though this wasn’t an issue earlier in the deal) and even on quick tasks or emails, they respond to it before I can click send. There’s also so much about closing that I don’t understand and I feel like I’m bothering the higher-ups on the team whenever I ask. *end anxiety post*

Question for the Biglaw Bowl: How common is it to take a pay cut when being promoted from associate to income partner? I had heard about this happening at some lower ranked V100 firms. But now that I’m more senior and my friends are making partner, it sounds like it’s a lot more common than I thought and happens at firms where I wouldn’t expect it. Does anyone here have any insight into this? How common is it, how much of a pay cut, and how long until your pay catches up to associate pay?

And to the people who do this... why?
