I’ve heard from quite a few people about how creatives are not happy at Droga and people might want to avoid if they want to be happy and want to have work/life balance. Someone had a break down while working there. It’s still one of the better agencies. Just wondering what is the dirt there. Any insider stories?

WLB is not great.

But there are lots of reasons to like it.

David is involved in all the work.

The new CCOs are smart and committed to an environment that leads to good things getting made.

There are a lot of accounts that are opportunities.

And more committed people than other places.

There aren’t many clients making comedy, Strategy has really lost its way in the last couple of years, and Accenture waste a lot of your time...

But it’s still worth it.

Why is this the ‘most red of red flags’? Clients can get to a good area to work from, so can creatives. The idea that good strategists are a part of the process that you can’t do without is kind of a myth.

I freelanced there a few years ago and had to pull an all nighter, left around 8am to get some sleep. Came back a day later and it was like a pissing contest. ‘You left at 8am? Well I stayed until 11am!!’ Cool flex bro.

Many of my droga buds pre-covid would post instagram stories of them leaving the office around 1-2am

What a badge of honor. Not.

I know a guy who just finished freelancing there and he said it was punishing. Long hours including every weekend. Disorganized. FWIW he said people were nice, but everyone is burned out.

In general hyped agencies have poor WLB (and you have exceptions) so no surprises there. Also many foreigner-led agencies (aka Australia/Brazil/etc) demand the crazy work ethic they are used to in their home countries.

I’ve never seen so many people leave at 6 on the dot when I moved to NYC pre Covid days. I found WLB in the US. (The workaholic lifestyle is nothing to be proud of)

Just wanted to give you the proper ‘Droga Creative Recruitment’ experience.

The alternative would have been ‘Yes’, but with an offer of half the money you get now and a title lower.

That translates to “I want to work at droga”

Feel like now they are with Accenture a lot of their clients are having them do performance marketing (cuz gotta make dat monies), and only a few spots that are decent coming out of there.

Ok, let’s do an advertising version of the other post. What’s an ad and/or campaign you like that most everyone else seems to hate?

Every time I see a gig post that specifies “senior creatives (5-7 years experience)” I’m like, wut? Five years is barely mid-level IMO.

I lead a small-ish creative department at an e-commerce company. My background is in design, branding, and photography, but I’ve taught myself a fair amount of HTML and CSS. Our site’s platform is extremely rigid and constantly handcuffs the design team because we can’t meet executive expectations within these constraints. Because of this, I find myself having to write a LOT of custom code to make things look/behave properly. Is this normal? I’m happy to help, but this is way outside my JD.

Does the imposter syndrome ever go away? I’m about four years into my career and I still don’t think I consistently come up with good ideas that people really love. Too often at the outset I fall into the same tropes that I have to dig myself out of, and then end up with half-baked ideas. People seem to like my work, but if the nugget of the idea isn’t mine (even if we hash it out together), it feels like I’m merely riding my partner’s coattails. Anyone feel the same?

Any ADs feel like they’re stepping on toes sometimes early in the ideation/pitch deck phase? I for sure defer on my partner when it comes to crafted copy for scripts, headlines, etc., but I feel like when it’s early on the idea is still an abstract thing living in my brain, and I should be able to do the write-up, or at least guide it. I feel like I’m getting boxed out of my own ideas because “that’s not my job.” Really bumming me out. How do you navigate this?

Saw the new “Launch it” campaign from squarespace LA office. Well, it’s a 3 min ad so I scrubbed forward after 30 seconds and not sure what’s it about. Does a real consumer really have time to watch a 3 min ad on their social feed? I liked a lot of their previous spots though. The one with John Malkovich was a fav.
