SSSS is not permanent. I got it for a leg from Paris back to USA. Lasted for a single flight and was gone
Not true - Turkish airlines is one of the best, go for it
I can attest to an interesting story - went to istanbul for a week. Both me and my wife got ssss on way back. I got ssss on next 4 domestic flights. called tsa and was asked to submit a letter on why we went to istanbul and then the ssss went away. So be careful if you have a long layover and plan to enter turkey
Not true
I got S’d coming back to Chicago from Toronto. It wasn’t a big deal and I welcomed the pat down as it was the only human touch I’ve gotten in a long time. I just wished they weren’t wearing gloves as I craved the skin to skin contact. It was over too quickly.
^ have you flown them recently?
That was for Mck1
Got it on BA coming back from LHR a few weeks ago. First and only time I’ve had it
What is ssss
Secondary Screening
I got it from Abu Dhabi to Chicago - it’s actually faster but I agree the pat down is annoying
Secondary Security Screening Selection. Depends on the airport, it can be very through or brief. I got it on an open jaw from CDG-EWR despite global entry, and it went by quickly
Literally half my flight from DXB had ssss. Takes extra 2 mins. Make sure your laptop and electronics have enough charge left. Any electronics that don’t turn on will be confiscated.
I get SSSS all the time, various reasons. One pattern is booking international tickets at the very last minute, such as 3 hours before a flight.
It’s not just Turkish airlines/Istanbul. I’ve gotten it on my way to the U.S. in Zurich, Brussels, Frankfurt, and Munich while flying a variety of airlines. It varies from a few extra questions to turning on your electronics to a search through you carry ons. Annoying, but not a huge deal and I’ve seen people with U.S. official and diplomatic passports get hit with it too
Also it’s really demoralizing to be 7-8 hours in to that Turkish Flight and to be right over Germany with another three hours of flight time, a chaotic airport to connect through with another round of security, and another three hour flight ahead of you. You’ll basically lose that entire first day of your trip. If you fly directly to Germany you tend to get in first thing in the morning, and if you can power through the jet lag you have that entire day to enjoy
Ive got it on United going to Zurich
It can happen anytime
I have gotten it from Istanbul on Turkish but it was a one time thing. Don’t book last minute or one way tickets. Looks suspicious
I’ve had it after a quick turnaround out of country... nothing crazy, they just wanted me to take out my laptops and turn them on and went through all the stuff in my bag. Maybe an extra 10 minutes of screening.
