I've heard that the MBB counsel out rate is potentially higher than other firms, which feels like an underrated risk of going to MBB for a risk-averse personality. Do y'all have a rough estimate of what percentage of people make it to Manager level post MBA?

This is so over stated.

Most people (90-95%) who make it to MBB can make manager no problem. The issue is most don’t want to - the hours are long, and the opportunities elsewhere could be better.

Very few people actually get counselled out. It’s rare, and usually not a surprise.

There are of course, always exceptions. You’ll find the vocal minority of exceptions will speak much louder on the internet.

BCG2, any idea what this percentage would be from A to C and then from PL to P? I know this would be rough guess but curious how it differs.

Yeah, as a senior associate looking at EM, I used to think “who would ever leave this job!”, but now I’m like, getting tired of the grind and other jobs are starting to look more appealing...it all seems so glittery until you realize what exactly goes on behind the glitter, and it’s much less glamorous than you’d think.

This. Yes. 100%. Cannot emphasize enough.

There are very very few people who want to make manager and don’t. The problem is, most people don’t want to make manager, that’s the role when wlb/pressure starts to scale quickly.

The vast majority of people make the voluntary choice vs. being told to leave.

Also like 80% chances of success is pretty high and the downside is having your name as an alumni then well you can go wherever you want can’t you?

like

Yeah just here confirming it's more rare than it's made out to be. I've been here 2.5 years and only knew 1 person that got hit with CTL

like

Thanks for the perspective!

I would say there is ~ 15% involuntary attrition up to manager (in a nominal year), and that is ~4 years. Compare that to a 25% total attrition per year...

I think CTLs are understated in most people's minds because most people who would or expect to get CTL don't tell anyone.

My husband has a tendency of always shutting me down in discussions. I don’t know why, but his ingoing position is that I must be clueless regarding whatever topic we are discussing. It’s very annoying because 1) I find it disrespectful 2) I am smart enough to have the same job as him and 3) it means we can never talk about anything- he always turns it into an argumentative way of disproving whatever I say

I'm actively looking for a job change in a profile completely different than what I'm doing currently.

And by that time if I receive any offer letter, I don't know what should I do?

Shall I reject the on site opportunity or go with it and reject the new offer?
