I've heard you shouldn't quit because of another employee. Two times in my career managers have tried to get me fired to cover up their own incompetence or mistakes. I played it well and they ended up being fired. They were very abusive to staff.

Now I'm dealing with a frankly insane coworker and I really don't feel like waiting it out or playing some game. It's exhausting.

Been in a similar situation and the abusers were males in ownership roles. Ultimately decided I could continue to do the job, but just didn’t want to. My mental health was more important than my career.

Same same. I finally gave in to my manager (previously my equal) trying yo grt me fired and just quit. I chose peace

I have been in a spot where a higher up male in a leadership roll was making my life 10x harder at work than it needed to be. Another female employee did quit as a result. We were all working on a huge project. I was one bad meeting away from quitting. My boss was able to replace the person with someone else that was much more helpful. He still work for the company but my interactions are a lot less.

There are always frustrating people no matter where you work. The “deal breaker” question (for me) would be - Does this person have any influence over your performance reviews or compensation? I stuck it out because for me the answer was no….but if that is a yes for you then I would 100% start looking.

Same! Same! Same! I've only been in house for about 3 years but I've had multiple people try to get me fired including an entire department. It wasn't even the highest up in that department that wanted me fired it was a middle level manager who got the entire department on board. Everyone who's made an effort to get me out has been a woman. I'm still here and so far everyone who's tried it is gone. But I'm dealing with the exact same thing. I've got a really horrendous coworker who is very incompetent and I've almost quit several times because of her. She's just absolutely disrespectful and mean. What's worse though is that my boss doesn't care. Because of my position I feel like I have a duty to bring these things forward when I notice a concern about an employee's behavior but my boss has been very adamant that he doesn't want me doing that to the point that I fear my position would be at risk if I did.

The only thing that has kept me going is picking a date, usually 6 months out, and wait for that date to see what happens. The only problem is I'm starting my 3rd 6 month period to see if things change. . .

Duty to bring these things forward - I know what you mean. Same situation but at the end of the day I am an individual contributor, not a a manager so ultimately it is up to your boss to provide better counsel to the slacking employee. While I am Lead on my team, I don’t want to overstep either since I don’t have managerial duties. This slacker colleague is female and she isn’t slacking, she just lacks the technical skill set to do the job. How she was hired in the first place, I will reserve my opinion for now. Her way to deflect on her lack of skills is to complain about me to the boss- like say things to where she is victim and I’m the offending person here. It’s all silly childish things she does and I’m fed up. I’m ready to leave simply bc I can’t stand working with her.

I'm currently in a similar difficult situation at work. Been trying to get another job but having difficulty trying to find something. Had three interviews with recruiters. Two told me they will put me forward in the interview pipeline only to be told the next week that they went with other candidates.

It's difficult feeling trapped at my current role without any way to escape the abuse/sabotage I am currently experiencing. Each work week feels like a year. It doesn't feel like things are getting better unfortunately.

Part of a small firm (1/3 attorneys). Have <1YOE in practice but a few years of relevant corporate experience. I got a job to go inhouse and accepted.
Would it be appropriate for me to give notice to the firm’s Senior counsel? The founding partner (hired me) is on vacation until July 5th.
I have a long relationship with the founding partner. But I get 50% of my work from the senior counsel. Just trying to not take on any additional long term projects.

Would you feel comfortable telling HR that your service line’s culture sucks and name the individuals who cause it? Or is a better approach saying it’s the leadership in general creating a negative and toxic culture? How effective are these conversations really? Trying to assess if there’s any point in bringing this up. Obviously HR works for the company and an employee sharing their thoughts on the unsupportive, cold leaders could bite me in the long run.

Some times I feel bad when fake experience people join the company and overtake other people with genuine experience. But in today’s scenario fake is equivalent to genuine.
Being in Cognizant I know still few people who were surviving well despite layoff with fake experience and take salary in lakhs per month . Genuine people are still left paralysed with low salary !

I feel like my work place is either discriminating against me or has me on a list to get rid of. At the expense of coming across as a jerk I stand up for myself at work and I'm not afraid of telling my work place no. Which is one reason I feel I'm on a list that my upper management doesn't like. I don't go out of my way to be a jerk but I know my rights as an employee and my work place doesn't like that. They won't let me promote but let people I've trained get promoted.
