I’ve just had 2 jobs tell me I’d need to provide a SOW or estimate my time needed for each project assigned. Is this normal? Sign of the apocalypse?

That's extremely normal. I'm surprised this is the first time you're running into it. That's how all agencies sell work, totally reasonably for clients to expect individual freelancers to behave similarly. In their eyes, both groups are contractors - just with different scale of resources.

Doesn’t seem crazy. What are you sending them instead? I also find this correlates with rate/pricing too.

Sometimes, but always be very clear on time allotted and what happens if the project goes over the time amount. If they balk at this, walk. They're trying to take advantage of you at that point.

It’s normal

What kind of companies? I just always have done day rates or hourly if the companies been sued for some labor issue around that billing method. I ask company because sometimes startups or smaller companies are like I have X in the budget for you can you make it work and I usually reply yes and it will include Y and if we go over there’s a charge.

don’t line item. The client’s next move might be to pick apart each line.. leaving you with nothing.

I just had this. 18 month long project with multiple phases. I could only detail out each phases then give an hours per week estimate, with range of hours I could work

I've 6.5 yrs of experience in automation testing & agile methodology. Currently in CL9. I joined ACN with mindset that I'll move into management role after couple of years, but they put me into a project which is 100% opposite to my previous experience, both domain and techn wise. I'm planning to take up Agile Project Management role immediately (Scrum Master or PO) & my supervisor said he will help me making the shift. Is it worth for me to make this shift right now? Recently completed MBA.

Hi , Need your advice. Im about to complete 1 yr in tcs. I was forcefully allocated to a support project ,now i have cleared digital exam, but when i asked my HR, she is asking me to stay till 1 year in the project for getting release, since my digital cadre depends on bands i have decided to stay till i get band. My concern is that what would be the best course of action if i lose my digital cadre due to a bad band or i will not be able to get release from this project ? Can a 1 yoe switch ?

New to Project Management. Today my company asked me to PM a new customer Project. The Project is assigned a team with a technical lead. My career so far has been in development, but I have already been a lead on projects where managers had little presence and I had to do a lot of customer interactions. However, I have never been present in a project kick-off and high level decision making processes. What do I need to find out on early stages of the discussion, and what to ask in onboarding?

Hi Fishes, I handle a team of professional working on US TAX. Recently my role has changed to Project management, Agile. Along with that I have started playing role to manage UAT testing for the supporting technology on which our team works. I also help on automation (data wrangling) using Alteryx (somewhat aware about the tool, not designer). My Q is should I proceed my career as Project manager, Scrum Master. Knowing that I have no tech. background/Education. If so where can I be best fit?

Hi All, Recently got the opportunity to "grow our ESG/CSR" practice at a small regional consulting firm, due to my recent grad certification in sustainable strategy. Wondering where I should focus us as a services industry for big impact - we have a large product innovation, engineering area, and know in the past we've had a lot of lip service to clients and only recorded ESG for their compliance. Hoping to make a big difference and include CSR/Sust audits for our client projects! Any tips?

As I’m preparing for the week ahead, I just know that everything we are doing is just contractual obligations and is not going to benefit the client as much in the long run. I’m only a year in consulting, so I don’t know if it gets better. But I really do want to do something more meaningful that adds real value to whoever I’m working for! 😫

I'm receiving feedback from my supervisor that I cannot be promoted based on my feelings about past projects. I've asked for examples of inappropriate behavior and actions related to my "feelings" and he's always come up blank. Everything has gone well in terms of delivery and client management and I have positive feedback from others that supports this. This situation feels pretty sexist to me, and I'm not sure there's anything I can do other than leave. Anyone been in a similar situation?

Does anyone know why I lose more weight when I eat 2000 calories vs when I eat 1200 calories? For reference, I am currently 5’7 F and 128 lbs. I cannot work out for another month due to an expiring CPA exam so I am definitely losing muscle mass. When I calorie count, I account for every little thing such as the vegetable oils or the tbs of salt. The 1200 calories is usually an extremely large meal + fruits + soup. The 2000 calories is usually a meal from a restaurant + fruits + a sandwich.

I should note I live on the complete opposite side of the country from my family, so no support other than my husband but he works full time too.
