Well, do you still feel like you’re getting stronger? Able to do more exercises? Or seeing new muscle definition?
Maybe this will be an unpopular opinion here, but I’m not a proponent of only considering weight without considering how your body changes. If your muscles are really starting to tone up, it may be offsetting what you see on the scale temporarily.
Thats true as well! When I swapped out the gym for running in covid I put on a tad bit of weight, but I see now it was my poor undertrained legs finally packing some muscle on
Congrats on that weight loss! What you might want to do is try different activities. I hope I can lose 20 like you!
20 lbs is a LOT of weight to lose!! Congratulations, OP. If you’re trying to lose more, what if you were to give yourself the gift of letting this become your new normal? Keep working out, eat healthfully, but don’t actively try to lose more right now. In about 6-12 months, it will be easier to change up your eating or exercise (or both) and make headway because your body will have adjusted.
If you’re really into changing your diet (which - let’s face it - is really the best way to lose), you’ll need to track what your food patterns are now and begin to adjust them toward healthier ways of eating. Less/ more meat. Fewer/ more carbs. Less/ more fat. There are dozens of ways to adjust your diet and you may want to talk with a nutritionist before landing on something new. But if you have quite a bit to lose, I recommend the gradual plan as it will help you keep weight off longer term.
Try fasting, there are lots of books and blogs on it. I was doing a 16 hour fast most days and even that seemed to really affect my weight and energy levels (in a good way)
You can't really "trick" your body with workouts (muscle confusion is a thing, but what most people think of).
Weight loss is mostly diet anyways, so if you think it's that, track your calories and/or identify what you e been doing to cause the plateau. Can you cut out creamer, soda, make other small changes? Are you just eating too big portions? Or are the foods you've been eating just too caloric?
Please see a nutritionist. There’s not enough info on your post to comment. For example, 20lbs on a 5’10” man who is starting from 250 and went to 230 is very different from 20lbs on a 5’10” woman starting from 150 to 130. Also, be sure to do a stool sample to understand your gut.
Why are you combative? I didn’t think asking for a reference to your statement was a high-crime. Just asking where you’re getting that info.
Track macros - 30/40/30 fats/protein/carbs is a good start.
Look into keeping your protein (in grams) intake = bodyweight in lbs.
You have to count calories. I’ve been doing the same since about January but only starting shedding real pounds when I starting counting calories about a month ago. Get a kitchen scale and cook all your meals. It sucks but the only way to shed those pounds is by being in a calorie deficit.
I think it depends on where you stand in terms of weight now. Sometimes it might be okay to go into “maintenance” calories for a few days or even up to a week to help get various things back on track including hormone levels which can be impacted by significant weight loss, as well as glycogen levels
