The problem is real! I am with you. What will it take ? I am focusing on teaching as if we were in all online learning so as to improve the shortcomings we faced last spring. I will be praying for all of us.
I’m doing the same. Whether we like it or not, online learning is definitely going to be a part of education from now on. I’m trying out all sorts of apps and websites to enhance the online learning experience. It’s definitely not perfect (or easy) but it’s the future. I think we should all be getting more training on how to use all these resources. Sadly, I fear that in-person learning will be short lived. Sooner or later, there will be an outbreak in the school and everyone will be stuck at home again. We might as well prepare for it.
Family first.... job second. You may be able to secure an online/virtual position instead.

Sad, but the same dilemma so many teachers are facing. 😞
You don’t have to quit. Take a medical leave for the anxiety. I had my doctor write a note saying I shouldn’t be in the classroom until things normalize.

Advocate for yourself. Don’t worry about getting a job later. They are going to need you, even if they are acting like they won’t.
I feel exactly the same way as you do! I locked myself in the house for two full months before finally going to Target for supplies and food. Every scratchy throat or cough sends me spiraling because I’m terrified of killing my parents. Side note: I’m 26, but I’m still so afraid, and I want to just do remote learning until it is safe.
Sounds familiar. How is your school choosing to reopen? Can you take FMLA or medical leave if you need to? Do what is best for our health and your family.

The stress and anxiety has made my diabetes difficult to control. I am working in a no mask school, in person learning, poor Ventilation, and sporting events between schools. It’s going to be a disaster. I am just going to take it day by day and hope I survive.

😞
I pray you will be protected from both fear and illness. We are in an overwhelming season in our lives. In my small town middle school, two of our about 20 teachers grades 5-8 simply retired. In California we have a reprieve from classroom exposure, but the threat still looms.
I've put in for a work accommodation under the ADA. There is also the potential for FMLA leave, or use of accumulated sick leave. Can your union or teachers' association rep help?
The union is pushing for ADA accommodations. They’d like to have these accommodations include teachers who’s families are high risk, even if they themselves are not. I have a feeling that in the end, the accommodation will only be made for those that have pre-existing conditions themselves. I don’t know if anxiety would count in this case, as it doesn’t put you in the CDC’s “high-risk” category. I think we’re supposed to hear more about it next week.
