I’ve maintained a pretty eclectic practice most of my career, doing both corporate / M&A and litigation. I’m trying to sharpen and elevate my M&A practice (I started out as a law clerk and then a litigator so it’s a lot more intuitive to me still). Any recommendations for books that would be helpful?

Anatomy of a merger is an old book but a classic partners I work for swear by. It will probably help a lot

Download for sure if you can. I was lateraling and I asked for suggestions before I started so I couldn’t use my current firm’s account but this would be the way to go.

Just wanted to post an update. 68 weeks ago I posted about my drinking problems. It was bad. It’s been 8 months now without a single drink. I still can’t believe it. I still miss drinking. I’ve sat with coworkers and watched them drink. It’s not nearly as fun, but I am so thankful each morning I can hold my head up high. Will I drink again? I only said I would quit for 60 days. Can I have a beer? Some wine? A fine bourbon? I sometimes crave it. I guess there is the answer! You can all do this!

Not a happy post, but here to seek the Asian perspective/advice. The story is: I was raised by my grandparents in China while parents came to the US. When I was 10 I moved here to be with parents, when they neglected me for years (no food in house, dad left us for a bit, etc). When I started working, parents started emotionally manipulating me for money. I finally cut them out of my life. My grandparents don’t understand why I refuse to see them, it’s created a strain in my relationship…cont

Hi all! I’m a 3rd year associate looking to leave my current big law firm to join another. My firm pays out bonuses at the end of February, and the firm policy states that the bonus will be paid out to the employee if they are employed on the date it is paid. My new firm is requesting a start date / asking me to provide notice. Assuming I give notice at my current firm on Feb 17th / 18th, am I likely to still get the bonus paid out (assuming it will be paid on Feb 25th / 28th)?

When saving docs to the system, I notice some firms consistently put the project name first and title second, e.g., Project Mountain - Escrow Agreement. I don’t know why, but it bothers me not having the document title first. If for instance my browser/window is too small, all you see is Project Mountain—not Escrow Agreement. Also feel like it’s easier if you were to sort alphabetically. So unimportant, but is there a reason for project name first?
