I’ve mentioned to my dates that I have upcoming solo international travel and it’s always met with a surprise and viewed as “weird”. Anyone else experience this?

No. If they find it weird then it’s not a match.

Strangely, a number of the people who find eating, seeing a movie, or traveling alone weird are also zero value-add in 1:1 or group adventures. It's no wonder they don't get people who like spending time alone if spending time with themselves is meh.

like

Haha very very true

It’s “weird” to do anything alone for some reason. I used to get that a lot if I said I went to a movie alone or had dinner at a restaurant by myself. They think you have no friends or something 😒

As a primarily solo internationally traveler--do you 😎

like

Not weird at all.

I just got back from international solo travel and both my trips abroad this year have been solo! While it may be out of the “norm” there’s nothing weird or wrong with it at all. In fact, it’s highly underrated and takes someone with a strong sense of self to do it!

They're weird for calling you weird

I’m gonna judge really hard and say people who think traveling alone is weird are uncomfortable by themselves. New date filter.

like

I don’t know—I know people who are quite comfortable by themselves, but do like traveling with others with similar interests. I’m not one of them, but I think you can be comfortable being alone with yourself but are happier traveling with someone they’ll enjoy doing the same things with—whether in an romantic or platonic capacity. Just an observation I’ve had though.

Unfortunately there are lots of people who don't understand enjoying time to yourself. They're really missing out! And if they think something you enjoy is weird, consider it a blessing that you learned sooner rather than later that you two aren't compatible.

like

Hah most of my international travels are solo too

like

They weird. I’m a female consultant and I’m comfortable walking into any restaurant alone, traveling alone, watching the movies alone, etc. Different kind of fun to have complete control of your itinerary.

Main character energy 🙌

I went to Russia and the Ukraine for two weeks alone, no spouse or kids. It was heavenly!

Not “weird” at all—how is it different from solo domestic travel for pleasure?

like

Definitely a little wired but that's alright! Find someone who embraces it

I get that more often in the US too. In Europe I think it is more common. I don’t think it’s weird. I love traveling alone!

Travel is different because it's difficult to coordinate PTO or schedules with people or they just don't have the money. So if you want to see the world, you have to do some solo trips. You generally end up meeting different characters along the way anyway and you can always chat with your family and friends on Zoom. I actually find it quite enjoyable and adventurous. However, I would never go to a movie, bar, club, restaurant etc alone unless I was traveling alone for business travel.

like

Etsy 1 - well it's just because if I'm at home I can easily just meet up with my spouse, family, friends or coworkers so I'd rather catch up with people. Not to say that I don't spend any alone time, it's just I'd rather do other stuff like exercising, walking around the city, shopping, riding my scooter etc alone. When I am traveling abroad or for work domestically then I don't have as much choice but to do things alone.

Would be a major red flag about them for me. People who need to be accompanied all the time are… adult infants. Solo traveling is the best btw.

I think it’s impressive to solo travel!! F them!

I used to love traveling alone before I met my wife. Some of the most fun I ever had honestly. Nothing weird about it.

Working in my office used to be my primary source of work outfit inspiration but since working remote staying aware of what styles are in is nearly impossible. I live in a smallish town, so going out doesn't help fill in that awareness gap. Are there any online communities or slack communities where people talk about and share style inspiration I can wear at work? I'm 28, work in tech, and my office is a start up, so attire is casual. I'd also be interested in brands people follow.
