I’ve never been in a position to negotiate salary. When I applied, interviewed for this role I’m in now. Our company had a hiring freeze. With this being said I didn’t work with the recruiter the hiring manager did. So I was totally unaware of my pay. Until freeze lifted and I saw it. I at least thought it would be 10% more of my previous salary. I’m not sure how to go about attempted to raise the “bar” I never signed anything or accepted an offer. I just accepted the role. Any insight?

Adding - I’ve been on Glassdoor my company pays way more than I was given. I want to try and aim for 10% but don’t want to shoot myself in the foot.

Wait..am I understanding correctly? You took the job not knowing what the salary was? Hmm.....I'm not sure you can renegoitate. But you can certainly ask for a raise.

Hey! I’m new here and would like some input. I’ve been working in a new position for almost 5 months. In that time I’ve witnessed some unethical and lots of unprofessional behavior. I’ve been yelled at and berated by my coworker 3 separate times because of minor errors. I’m ready to quit. There are so many major issues in this company that I don’t know if I want to subject my mental health to this degree of toxicity. I just don’t know how to move forward from here.

As the job market recovers and tech talent becomes especially sought-after, some job seekers can be at a crossroads.

Fledgling startup or a big, established company: where would you work?

Working at a startup helps you pick up new cross-functional skills, forces you to dig deeper into your reserves, and allows leadership opportunities.

Big companies typically have a more structured path for career growth, offer benefits and perks to employees, and are perceived as more stable.

3 years ago I asked for a compensation review/raise, went through what felt like a ridiculous 8 MONTH long process of defending why it was warranted, only to be told no. 3 months ago I asked again and it has gone nowhere. I should add that salary bands are kept secret and I have no clue what the range for my position is. Hi, I'm an artist with 5 years of experience in the game developmentindustry.

After interview sessions, it comes to salary negotiation. To my surprise, the salary offer is below industry average, even more like junior-level salary.

Though my experience includes team leadership and I have described in detail how I could contribute to the company, the interviewer raised the offer, adding $300 only, still in junior salary range.

What does it really mean, and how do I win the negotiation?

TIA.
