Burnout it seems like

D2, I agree with what you’re saying, but i’m operating under the assumption this person is pretty financially healthy considering they have 6 years in at GS.
I really wouldn’t burn through all your PTO since you will need it later- if you can, find a way to take a leave of absence. You might be able to get short-term disability for mental health leave.
Personally, what it would do if you’re really burnt out and have some change saved, is take the LOA, pack up my apartment up in storage and sublease it, and temporarily relocate to a VLCOL area for a few months to recharge. You can find very inexpensive places to live in Mexico or the southern mediterranean.

Take a 3 or 6 month sabbatical to reassess what you want in life!

I’m feeling the same way you’re not alone
I went through this a few years back. I was just burned out. It took ~1 year of me doing very little work to get back in the swing of things.
Thanks for sharing MD1 will keep this in mind down the road
