I’ve never really taken sick days in my entire consulting career, about 2 years in. I do not want to, and I just don’t get sick often. But I’m wondering if this is something that is valued by upper management when evaluating their talent? Any thoughts from leaders and managers in consulting? I’ll continue to be the same regardless but I’ve been curious is this is a strength.

If you are mentally or physically unwell, stay home. Come back energized and able to give the best of you. With all due respect - this isn’t Wall Street of the 80’s anymore.

I rolled into a COO who was pissed if people didn’t use their sick time for caring for themselves or family when they needed it. Was sent home when i had the sniffles. Felt fine enough to work but the thought was that other people in the office don’t need my germs / may not have it manifest as a mild cold. Years later found out we also had an employee undergoing chemo while Inworked there. Always admired the COO for handling the situation like that.

Though very admirable, highly doubt it. My last 2 C-suite bosses always encouraged people to take time off and viewed it as a positive when employees recognized they needed time to recharge vs. letting themselves work past effectiveness.

Good perspectives! Just for clarity, I don’t go to work sick. I just work from home. But ya, encouraging people to take time off to recharge.
